We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Heavy Duty Mechanic
Location: Nigeria
Job Purpose
- The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy-duty vehicles, equipment, and generators to ensure optimal performance, safety, and operational efficiency across plantation activities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Carry out routine and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty equipment such as trucks, tractors, bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders, and generators.
- Perform corrective repairs to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine faults accurately.
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend effective solutions.
Component Replacement & Servicing:
- Adjust, service, and replace defective components to restore equipment functionality.
- Ensure all replaced parts meet required technical and safety standards.
Routine Inspection & Safety Compliance:
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and machinery to prevent breakdowns
- Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and industry standards.
- Promote a safe working environment within the workshop and field operations.
Generator & Engine Repairs:
- Perform repairs and maintenance on generators and engine systems as required
- Ensure efficient operation of power-generating equipment for estate use.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage.
- Report faults, completed jobs, and outstanding issues to the supervisor.
Collaboration & Operational Support:
- Work closely with other mechanics and operational teams to maintain equipment schedules.
- Support field operations by ensuring machinery availability and reliability.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
- SSCE, ND or equivalent qualification
- Hands-on experience in heavy-duty equipment maintenance and repair.
- Experience in plantation, industrial, or construction environments is an advantage.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of:
- Generator repairs
- Engine diagnostics and repairs
- Hydraulic systems and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding conditions
- High level of integrity, honesty, and reliability
Additional Requirements:
- Age range: 25 – 45 years.
- Willingness to work extended hours when required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Based at the estate workshop with frequent field assignments.
- Exposure to heavy machinery, noise, grease, and outdoor conditions.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Salary
N124,550 - N150,000 Month.
