Job Title: Legal Counsel

The Role

  • We are seeking a highly motivated, commercially astute, and solution-oriented Legal Counsel to join our dynamic Legal Team in Lagos.
  • This role is ideal for a lawyer with strong commercial acumen and hands-on experience supporting fast-paced business operations within fintech, banking, technology, or commercial legal advisory space.
  • The successful candidate will play a critical role in advising the business on legal, regulatory, operational, and contractual matters while partnering closely with internal stakeholders across Product, Operations, Partnerships, Compliance, Risk, and Management teams.

What You Will Do
Commercial Contracting & Advisory:

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of commercial agreements, including vendor and supplier agreements, service and operational contracts, SaaS and technology agreements, banking and financial partnership agreements, consultancy and outsourcing arrangements, non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements, and product/platform-related documentation.
  • Provide commercially sound legal advice on contractual obligations and operational risks.

Business & Operational Support:

  • Provide day-to-day legal advisory support to internal business and operational teams.
  • Support the on-boarding, management, and engagement of vendors and third-party service providers.
  • Review customer-facing terms and conditions, operational policies, and legal notices.
  • Advise on legal issues relating to digital banking products, fintech services, and emerging technology solutions.
  • Support strategic business initiatives, partnerships, and commercial transactions.

Dispute Resolution & Risk Management:

  • Assist with dispute management, debt recovery matters, regulatory inquiries, and pre-litigation issues.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and operational risks across the business.
  • Coordinate with external solicitors and regulatory stakeholders where required.

Corporate Governance & Compliance:

  • Support internal compliance, corporate governance, and data protection initiatives.
  • Maintain legal documentation, contract repositories, renewal schedules, and regulatory records.
  • Assist with the management and protection of the Company’s intellectual property portfolio.

Requirements
What You Bring
Academic & Professional Qualifications

  • LL.B and B.L qualifications from recognized institutions
  • Called to the Nigerian Bar between 2019 and 2021.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience gained within fintech companies, banks, other financial institutions, technology-driven businesses, or commercial law firms with strong fintech, banking, or financial services exposure.

Technical & Functional Competencies:

  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and legal advisory skills.
  • Sound understanding of commercial transactions and operational legal risks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and commercial judgement.

Nice to Have:

  • Basic understanding of Data Protection and Privacy laws.
  • Basic understanding of AI Governance and emerging technology regulation.
  • Familiarity with the financial services’ regulatory framework.
