Job Title: Cost Controller

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Contract

Role Summary

• The Cost Controller is responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling project or operational costs to ensure financial efficiency and profitability.
• This role involves budgeting, cost analysis, forecasting, and reporting, while ensuring compliance with company policies and financial regulations.

Job Description

• Develop and manage budgets for projects, or operations
• Monitor actual costs against budgets and identify variances
• Prepare regular cost reports, forecasts, and financial analyses
• Analyze cost drivers and recommend cost-saving measures
• Ensure proper allocation and classification of costs
• Work closely with project managers and department heads to control expenditure
• Review and approve purchase orders, invoices, and expenses
• Track commitments and ensuring spending aligns with approved budgets
• Support financial audits by providing required documentation and explanations
• Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions related to costs
• Reconcile Revenue and Cost with Receivable Manager and Payable Manager
• Advice Line Manager prior to the impending risk on any project

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Accuracy of cost forecasts and reports
  • KPI: Forecast variance within ±5% of actual costs; error rate in reports below 2%
• Budget adherence and variance reduction
  • KPI: Maintain overall project/operational cost variance within ±5% of approved budget; monthly variance reduction trend achieved
• Identification and implementation of cost-saving initiatives
  • KPI: Deliver annual cost savings of at least 10% of total controllable costs; implement a minimum of 2–5 cost-saving initiatives per year
• Timeliness of reporting
  • KPI: 100% of reports submitted within agreed deadlines; monthly reports delivered within 7 working days after period close

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
• Professional certification preferred (ICAN, PMP).
• 4–6 years’ experience in Finance, Procurement, or Compliance functions
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cost management principles
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Microsoft package)
• Knowledge of billing, invoicing, and revenue recognition
• Proficiency in ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central advantage)
• Strong understanding of vendor compliance, cost control, and insurance/risk management.
• Proven experience as a Cost Controller, Cost Analyst, or similar role
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cost management principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary
N400,000 - N500,000 monthly.
