Job Title: Compliance Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • The Compliance Officer is to support the laid down organization procedures and processes, making sure they are in conformity with all applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Acting as the custodian of regulatory and ethical integrity, this role safeguards the organization against legal risks, reputational exposure, and financial penalties.

Job Description

  • Draft and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines to reflect evolving regulatory and statutory requirements, subject to compliance manager review.
  • Support the delivery of periodic compliance training and awareness programs across the business to strengthen organizational knowledge and accountability.
  • Prepare compliance reports, and investigation summaries, for senior management.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct across the organization.
  • Identify compliance gaps, control weaknesses, or emerging risks early and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date records of all compliance activities, ensuring documentation integrity and traceability.
  • Ensure timely resolution of compliance issues and address root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor vendors, contractors, and partners to ensure adherence to organizational compliance requirements.
  • Interface with Finance to review statutory compliance of invoices and transactions strictly from a control and assurance perspective, not transaction processing.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing compliance documentation, evidence, and responses as required.
  • Oversee ERP / system-based compliance controls (e.g., audit trails, workflow approvals, documentation integrity) to ensure embedded compliance checks are effective.
  • Adhere strictly to the mapped-out processes and procedures of the Finance & Account (FA) department and report accordingly.
  • Perform other compliance-related duties as assigned by the Head of Compliance & Audit or CFO, consistent with the role’s governance mandate.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Regulatory Compliance Adherence Rate. Target: ≥ 95%
  • Number of Compliance Incidents or Violations. Goal: As low as reasonably achievable.
  • Risk Mitigation Effectiveness. Goal: ≥ 95%
  • Investigation and Resolution Time: Tiered targets:
    • Simple cases: 2–3 business days
    • Complex cases: 5-7 business days.
  • Compliance Incident Recurrence Rate. Goal: ≤ 5% recurrence.
  • Whistleblower Cases and Resolution. Goal: 100% resolution within deadlines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • HND / Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a compliance, risk, audit, or regulatory role, preferably within a regulated or structured environment.
  • Solid understanding of laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to the organization.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong documentation, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High ethical standards, professional judgment, and discretion when handling sensitive matters.

Salary
N300,000 - N350,000 monthly.
