Job Title: Transaction Monitoring Officer

Job Purpose

  • The Transaction Monitoring Officer is responsible for the timely review, analysis, and investigation of transaction alerts to detect and prevent fraud, money laundering, and terrorist financing activities.
  • The role ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilties

  • Monitor customer transactions across all banking channels and platforms to identify suspicious, unusual, or potentially fraudulent activities.
  • Conduct real-time and post-transaction reviews to detect fraud patterns, account compromise, and unauthorized transactions.
  • Place Post No Debit (PND) restrictions on accounts suspected to be involved in fraudulent or suspicious activities in line with approved policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Investigate flagged transactions and accounts using transaction monitoring tools, fraud detection systems, and internal reports.
  • Escalate confirmed or high-risk fraud cases to Management
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of investigations, actions taken, and resolutions for audit and regulatory purposes.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Information Security, Compliance, Customer Service teams and other units to mitigate fraud risks and resolve cases promptly.
  • Monitor dormant, high-risk, and newly opened accounts for suspicious activities and policy violations.
  • Ensure prompt response to fraud alerts, customer complaints, and regulatory directives relating to suspicious transactions.
  • Recommend account freezing, restriction, or closure where fraudulent activities are established.
  • Ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and regulatory requirements relating to transaction monitoring and fraud prevention.
  • Participate in fraud awareness initiatives and other trainings organized by the Bank
  • All confirmed suspicious transaction trends observed in the course of monitoring   must be collated daily and shared (in consolidated format) with the compliance officer responsible for sharing STRs with NFIU.

Education 

  • Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related fields.

Skills Necessary for this function:

  • High attention to detail
  • Knowledge of financial crime typologies and red flags
  • Effective communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to balance speed and accuracy.
