Job Overview
- As an Accountant, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with statutory requirements, and timely reporting.
- The role supports financial planning, controls, and decision-making by maintaining integrity in financial data and contributing to efficient financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger entries in line with accounting standards.
- Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and adjustments.
- Prepare management accounts and variance analysis to support business decisions.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process supplier invoices, verify accuracy, and ensure timely payments.
- Manage accounts receivable, issue invoices, monitor collections, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Reconcile vendor and customer accounts regularly.
- Ensure proper approval and documentation for all payments and receipts.
Banking & Reconciliations:
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
- Liaise with banks on transactions, documentation, and account management.
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies promptly.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance:
- Prepare and remit statutory deductions including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other applicable taxes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulatory requirements.
- Support tax audits and respond to queries from tax authorities.
- Maintain up-to-date records for statutory filings and compliance.
Budgeting & Financial Control:
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Track actual performance against budgets and investigate variances.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, financial policies, and procedures.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and cost control.
Audit & Risk Management:
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with audit recommendations and corrective actions.
- Assist in strengthening internal control systems to mitigate financial risks.
Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate financial data.
- Provide financial support and clarification to non-finance stakeholders.
- Assist in special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 5-7 years relative accounting experience.
- Professional qualification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is mandatory.
- Experience working with accounting/ERP software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle, Zoho, or similar).
- Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations.
