Job Title: Accountant

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Head of Accounts

Job Overview

  • As an Accountant, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with statutory requirements, and timely reporting.
  • The role supports financial planning, controls, and decision-making by maintaining integrity in financial data and contributing to efficient financial processes.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger entries in line with accounting standards.
  • Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and adjustments.
  • Prepare management accounts and variance analysis to support business decisions.
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Process supplier invoices, verify accuracy, and ensure timely payments.
  • Manage accounts receivable, issue invoices, monitor collections, and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Reconcile vendor and customer accounts regularly.
  • Ensure proper approval and documentation for all payments and receipts.

Banking & Reconciliations:

  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
  • Liaise with banks on transactions, documentation, and account management.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies promptly.

Taxation & Statutory Compliance:

  • Prepare and remit statutory deductions including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other applicable taxes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Support tax audits and respond to queries from tax authorities.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for statutory filings and compliance.

Budgeting & Financial Control:

  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Track actual performance against budgets and investigate variances.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, financial policies, and procedures.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and cost control.

Audit & Risk Management:

  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with audit recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Assist in strengthening internal control systems to mitigate financial risks.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate financial data.
  • Provide financial support and clarification to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Assist in special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years relative accounting experience.
  • Professional qualification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is mandatory.
  • Experience working with accounting/ERP software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle, Zoho, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations.
