We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Newsletter Writer - The Juice

Location: Maryland, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

 Responsibilities 

  • Content Creation:Write, edit, and produce original, engaging content across various formats, including reported pieces, short analyses, explainers, and curated sections for both regular and special newsletter editions.
  • Trend Monitoring & Rapid Response:Monitor cultural shifts and breaking trends to deliver timely, fast-paced, and highly relevant stories.
  • Research & Reporting: Conduct in-depth research and interview key figures, creatives, and subject matter experts to ensure all content is accurate, insightful, and culturally grounded.
  • Editorial Strategy: Actively participate in editorial meetings by pitching original story ideas, new formats, and recurring segments that resonate with the target audience.
  • Brand Development: Collaborate with the team to shape the long-term editorial voice, strategy, and overall look and feel of The Juice.
  • Project Management: Support the execution of the editorial calendar by contributing to themed editions and time-sensitive coverage.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Newsletter Lead and the broader editorial team to consistently meet production schedules and strict publishing deadlines.
  • Perform other responsibilities as directed by your line manager.

Requirements

  • Have a background in journalism, media, or an existing presence in the Nigerian digital media space
  • Write with a clear, distinctive voice that can flex across formats
  • Are genuinely plugged into Nigerian culture, internet discourse, and industry conversations, not as research, but as a way of life
  • Have a genuine point of view, you don't just report what happened, you have a take on it
  • Can write short without losing substance, newsletter readers don't scroll forever
  • Have experience interviewing people and turning conversations into compelling content
  • Can move from a half-formed idea to a publishable draft without a lot of hand-holding
  • Treat deadlines as non-negotiable

Bonus points if you:

  • Have experience with newsletter platforms like Beehiiv, Substack, or Mailchimp
  • Have an existing audience or creative project of your own.
