Job Title: Material Management Officer
Location: Akwa Ibom
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end material planning, procurement coordination, and inventory control for the chemical storage plant.
- Ensure timely availability of raw materials, consumables, and spare parts to support uninterrupted operations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor stock levels using ERP/WMS systems.
- Implement inventory control techniques such as FIFO/FEFO and ensure proper material traceability.
- Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and store teams for material receipt, inspection, and issuance.
- Verify material specifications, quantities, and quality against purchase orders and delivery documents.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and preservation of materials, especially hazardous chemicals.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and surplus inventory and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare material requirement plans (MRP) based on production and maintenance schedules.
- Track and control material consumption to optimize costs and reduce wastage.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in material handling.
- Maintain documentation for audits, including stock reports, GRNs, and inspection records.
- Conduct periodic stock audits and reconciliation with system records.
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers for timely delivery and resolution of discrepancies.
- Support shutdowns, maintenance activities, and projects by ensuring material readiness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
- 12-15 years of experience in material management, warehouse, or supply chain operations.
- Experience in chemical, oil & gas, or manufacturing industry preferred.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP/Oracle).
- Experience in inventory planning, stock control, and auditing.
- Exposure to handling hazardous materials and compliance requirements is an advantage.
Certifications:
- Certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., APICS, CIPS) is preferred.
- SAP MM module certification is an added advantage.
Selection Criteria:
- Strong understanding of inventory control and material planning processes.
- Proven ability to manage stock efficiently with minimal discrepancies.
- Experience in ERP-based material management systems.
- Knowledge of chemical material handling and safety compliance.
- Good coordination skills with procurement, stores, and operations teams.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving capabilities.
Functonal Skills:
- Strong knowledge of material management, inventory control, and warehouse operations.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of MRP (Material Requirement Planning) and supply chain processes.
- Knowledge of chemical handling, MSDS/SDS, and storage requirements.
- Proficiency in inventory techniques (FIFO, FEFO, ABC analysis).
- Ability to analyze stock data and generate reports.
- Knowledge of procurement processes and vendor coordination.
- Understanding of safety and compliance standards for chemical materials.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
