Job Title: Backend Engineer

Location: Lagos (Remote)
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

• We are seeking a Backend Engineer to support the development and maintenance of secure, scalable backend systems that power financial transactions across multiple regions.
• The Backend Engineer will support the design, development, and maintenance of backend services that enable transaction processing, data storage, and system operations.
• The role requires solid backend development experience, good understanding of APIs and databases, and the ability to write clean, efficient, and secure code. You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to build reliable financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services that support payment and transaction systems.
• Assist in building APIs for data processing, storage, and reporting.
• Work with senior engineers to design scalable and efficient system components.
• Optimize database queries and support performance improvements.
• Implement testing to ensure reliability and system stability.
• Troubleshoot bugs and assist in resolving production issues.
• Follow security and data protection best practices.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and infrastructure teams.
• Maintain technical documentation for assigned tasks and systems.
• Learn and apply new tools and technologies as needed

Requirements

• First Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 2–3 years of backend engineering experience.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Python, Node.js, or Go).
• Basic experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Understanding of APIs and backend service development.
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic CI/CD concepts.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn. Good communication and teamwork skills.
