Job Brief
- Our client is a provider of Engineering solutions playing in multi-level sectors. We seek to recruit an experienced and commercially drivenGeneral Manager - Utility Maintenance Services, to lead and grow its power utility maintenance business across Nigeria.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical, operational, commercial, and financial management of the company’s utility maintenance activities, including transformer diagnostics and repairs, testing of electrical equipment, preventive maintenance of substations and distribution networks, fault investigation, project execution, personnel management, and business development.
- The role requires strong practical experience in electrical utility operations, power systems maintenance, testing and diagnostics, project management, and client engagement within the Nigerian power sector.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operations Management
- Lead and manage all utility maintenance operations across the company.
- Oversee transformer fault diagnostics, repair, refurbishment, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Manage testing, inspection, diagnostics, and condition assessment of electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, cables, breakers, relays, CTs, VTs, and associated power system equipment.
- Manage preventive maintenance programs for:
- 33/0.415kV substations
- 11/0.415kV substations
- 33/11kV injection substations Including associated transformers, protection systems, switchgear, earthing systems, auxiliary equipment and their 33kV, 11kV and LV lines.
- Lead troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis of transformer and network failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Lead testing and certification of electrical equipment and materials as may be required.
- Ensure compliance with technical standards, testing procedures, safety regulations, maintenance schedules, and operational targets.
- Coordinate field teams, contractors, vendors, and technical personnel for efficient service delivery.
Business, Commercial & Project Management:
- Develop maintenance plans, operational budgets, profitability targets, and business growth strategies.
- Monitor project execution, operational efficiency, costs, and resource utilization.
- Lead preparation of technical-commercial proposals, tenders, and maintenance service agreements.
- Drive business development activities with utilities, DISCOs, industrial clients, infrastructure operators, and government agencies.
- Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships across the power sector.
- Ensure timely project delivery, service quality, and client satisfaction.
Leadership & Administration:
- Lead recruitment, supervision, training, and performance management of technical and operational personnel.
- Establish KPIs, reporting systems, operational controls, and performance standards for the business unit.
- Promote a culture of safety, technical excellence, accountability, and operational discipline.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero failure of repaired or refurbished transformers after return to service on the network.
- Achievement of preventive maintenance schedules and operational targets.
- Reduction in equipment downtime and repeat faults.
- Timely completion of maintenance and repair projects within budget.
- Growth in maintenance contracts and business revenue.
- Compliance with safety, quality, and technical standards.
- High client satisfaction and service reliability levels.
Competitive Advantage:
- Previous hands-on experience working in a technical capacity with Transformer
- Repair or Manufacturing Facility, DISCOs, TCN, industrial power systems, or utility service companies.
- Existing relationships within the Nigerian power sector.
- Experience managing multi-location maintenance operations.
Professional Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related discipline.
- Must be a registered member of COREN.
- Must be younger than 50 years of age and in good health.
- Minimum of 15 years relevant experience in electrical utility operations, maintenance, testing, or power infrastructure services.
- Proven experience managing substation maintenance, transformer services, electrical testing, and distribution network operations.
- Strong knowledge of power transformers, protection systems, switchgear, earthing systems, testing procedures, and utility maintenance practices.
- Experience in fault diagnostics, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement programs.
- Strong commercial, project management, and business development capability.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering/testing/maintenance management tools.
- Ability to travel across Nigeria as required.
