Job Title: Pharmacist

Location: Benin City, Edo
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications accurately, ensuring safe and effective use of medicines, providing pharmaceutical care to patients, and supporting healthcare teams with medication management.
  • The role involves reviewing prescriptions, counseling patients, maintaining medication inventory, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
Medication Dispensing and Prescription Review:

  • Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and legality.
  • Dispense medications in accordance with physician prescriptions and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure correct dosage, formulation, route of administration, and duration of therapy.
  • Identify and resolve prescription-related issues, including drug interactions, contraindications, and dosage errors.
  • Maintain accurate dispensing records.

Patient Counseling and Pharmaceutical Care:

  • Educate patients on the proper use of medications, dosage schedules, storage requirements, and potential side effects.
  • Provide advice on over-the-counter medications and minor health conditions.
  • Promote medication adherence and safe medication practices.
  • Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Respond to medication-related inquiries from patients and healthcare professionals.

Clinical Pharmacy Services:

  • Participate in multidisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient care.
  • Review medication therapy plans and make recommendations to prescribers.
  • Support medication reconciliation and therapeutic drug monitoring activities.
  • Assist in developing and implementing clinical pharmacy programs.

Inventory and Stock Management:

  • Monitor pharmacy inventory levels and ensure adequate stock availability.
  • Manage the procurement and storage of pharmaceutical products.
  • Ensure proper handling of controlled substances and high-risk medications.
  • Monitor medication expiry dates and coordinate stock rotation.
  • Minimize wastage and stock shortages.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Participate in pharmacy audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
  • Ensure proper documentation of pharmacy activities.
  • Report medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and safety concerns as required.

Health Promotion and Community Education:

  • Provide health education and wellness advice to patients.
  • Participate in public health campaigns and awareness programs.
  • Promote rational use of medicines and preventive healthcare practices.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate patient medication records.
  • Prepare pharmacy reports and inventory documentation.
  • Assist with policy development and implementation.
  • Support training and supervision of pharmacy interns, technicians, and support staff where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor`s Degree with 2 years experience.
