We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Analytics Head

Location: Abuja (FCT)

The Role

  • The Analytics Head leads MSI Nigeria’s data analytics and reporting function, ensuring that high-quality, timely, and decision-relevant insights are available to programme, clinical, and organisational leadership.
  • The role sets the analytical agenda for the department, governs reporting standards, and builds the organisation’s internal data literacy and analytical capability.
  • The Analytics Head works closely with Programmes, Operations, M&E, MEL, Research, and Clinical Services teams, and ensures that analytical outputs from all decision-support systems are fit for purpose, accurate, and strategically meaningful.

Key Responsibilities
Analytics Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and drive the analytics strategy for MSI Nigeria, ensuring analytical capabilities align with programmatic and operational decision-making needs.
  • Set quality standards for all analytical outputs including dashboards, reports, datasets, and ad hoc analyses.
  • Oversee the organisation’s reporting infrastructure, including Power BI, Excel, MIS-Sun Reporting, and other business intelligence platforms.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to strengthen data use culture across MSI Nigeria through training, advocacy, and modelling good practice.
  • Contribute to the department’s strategic planning and represent the analytics function at departmental and SMT levels as required.
  • Support the resource mobilisation team with accurate and timely analytics and data modelling to support all proposals and fund raising efforts.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Ensure the timely production of all scheduled programme and operational reports to internal and external audiences.
  • Oversee the design and maintenance of analytical dashboards and data visualisations that support leadership decision-making.
  • Ensure analytical outputs are clearly communicated, well-documented, and accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Lead the analysis of complex, multi-source datasets to generate programme insights, including family planning metrics, service delivery trends, and outcome indicators.
  • Respond to ad hoc analytical requests from the Country Director, SMT, and programme leads in a timely and accurate manner.

MIS & Programme Data Oversight:

  • Ensure the integrity, completeness, and timeliness of data flowing from field data collection tools into reporting systems.
  • Liaise with the M&E, MEL, and Research teams to align analytical outputs with monitoring frameworks and programme indicators.
  • Identify data quality issues across MIS and reporting pipelines and coordinate with the Business Solutions Manager to address root causes.
  • Support clinical governance and service delivery channels reporting requirements by ensuring relevant data pipelines are maintained and accurate.
  • Oversee the management and continuous improvement of MIS reporting tools used by programme and clinical teams.

Data Governance & Quality:

  • Establish and maintain analytical standards, naming conventions, and data dictionary documentation for all key datasets and reports.
  • Review all major analytical outputs before external submission or senior presentation for accuracy, consistency, and interpretive integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with MSI data protection policies and responsible data principles in all analytical work.
  • Develop and maintain a version control and change management process for all production dashboards and reports.
  • Support the Head of Department in identifying and reporting on organisational data risks.

Data Privacy Governance:

  • Serve as MSI Nigeria's internal Data Privacy focal point, coordinating with information leads across all departments to ensure consistent adherence to data privacy standards.
  • Maintain and regularly review MSI Nigeria's data privacy policies, ensuring alignment with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and any applicable MSI global standards.
  • Monitor changes in Nigerian and international data privacy legislation and advise the Head of Department and SMT on implications for MSI Nigeria's operations.

Privacy Impact Assessments:

  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for all new and significantly changed data systems, research activities, and programme data collection processes.
  • Document identified privacy risks with clear mitigation plans, owners, and review timelines, maintaining a live risk register for sign-off by the Head of Department.
  • Ensure PIA outputs are factored into system design and procurement decisions, including the ERP implementation.

Training & Awareness:

  • Design and deliver regular data privacy training for all MSI Nigeria staff, ensuring content is role-appropriate, engaging, and up to date with current legal requirements.
  • Maintain a data privacy training register, tracking completion rates across all departments and escalating gaps to department heads and HR.
  • Develop and circulate periodic data privacy awareness communications to reinforce a culture of responsible data handling across the organisation.

Incident & Compliance Oversight:

  • Serve as the first point of escalation for data privacy incidents or concerns raised by staff or information leads in other departments.
  • Document any data privacy incidents, assess their severity, and coordinate the organisational response in line with NDPR requirements and MSI policy.
  • Produce a quarterly data privacy compliance summary for the Head of Department covering training status, PIAs completed, risks identified, and incidents handled.

Team Leadership & Capability Building:

  • Directly line-manage the Senior Data Analyst and Analyst, setting objectives, reviewing performance, and building analytical capability.
  • Design and deliver structured learning opportunities for staff across MSI Nigeria to improve their data literacy and use of analytical tools.
  • Foster a team culture of rigour, curiosity, and continuous improvement in analytical standards.
  • Manage workload planning across the analytics team, ensuring sustainable distribution of tasks and appropriate prioritisation.
  • Identify capability gaps in the team and make recommendations for recruitment, training, or role adjustment.

Key Experience/Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Information Systems, Public Health, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline is an advantage
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in data analysis, MIS, or business intelligence roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing an analytics or data team.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering analytical outputs for strategic decision-making in a complex organisational context.
  • Experience working with M&E or programme data in a global health, development, or humanitarian setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Power BI or equivalent business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with DHIS2 or similar programme reporting platforms is a strong advantage
  • Working knowledge of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and its operational implications for an NGO context.
  • Demonstrable understanding of privacy impact assessment methodology

Essential Skills & Competencies:

  • Advanced analytical skills, including the ability to work with large, complex, and multi-source datasets.
  • Strong proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, data modelling, and report design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of M&E frameworks, programme indicators, and results reporting.
  • Effective people management and coaching skills.
  • Strong documentation discipline for risk registers, training records, and incident logs.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging compliance training for diverse, non-technical audiences.
  • Meticulous attention to data quality, accuracy, and interpretive integrity.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with family planning programme indicators, including CYP, mCPR, and PPFP.
  • Experience with field data collection platforms such as ODK, ONA, or CommCare.
  • Knowledge of Power Query M, SQL, or Python for data transformation
  • Experience with clinical or health systems data in an NGO or health facility context.
