Job Title: Commercial Lead
Location: Nothern, Nigeria
Job Description
Role Purpose:
- The Commercial Lead is responsible for billing, collections, revenue assurance, and customer management whilst taking accountability for energy delivered, energy billed and revenue collected within the network.
- The successful candidate must combine commercial acumen with a hands-on technical understanding of metering and energy flow towards the reduction of technical, commercial, and collection losses.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Strategy & Execution:
- Develop and execute a monthly revenue optimisation action plan including collection drives, debt recovery campaigns, and customer metering programmes
- Own the billing-to-collection of revenues; identify and close revenue leakage, ranging from billing errors to deliberate evasion among others.
- Lead the transition of all unmetered/postpaid customers to prepaid smart meters, track migration progress against monthly targets
- Manage customer segmentation strategy whilst prioritising customer centric revenue drive
- Coordinate with the Network Management team on energy auditing and reconciliation across the network.
Billing & Collections Oversight:
- Supervise the Billing, Payment Management, and account reconciliations teams
- Review and sign off on billing outputs before dispatch; ensure zero tolerance for estimated billing where a meter exists
- Coordinate and monitors daily collection inflows across all payment channels (vending, bank, mobile, POS); whilst ensuring commercial efficiency
- Coordinate a structured debt recovery process, manages cash drive activities, disconnection, and reconnection activities.
Revenue Assurance & Loss Reduction:
- Supervise team members, develop strategies to detect and address meter bypass, illegal connections, and tampering
- Review field inspection reports; ensure detected infraction are promptly addressed in line with regulatory provisions
- Analyse load profile data per DT/feeder to identify anomalies; whilst reconciling network data for commercial efficiency
- Coordinate with Network Management Officers for joint technical-commercial investigations on periodic basis.
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure commercial activities comply with NERC consumer protection regulations and the Disco’s franchise commercial obligations.
- Coordinate weekly and monthly commercial performance reports to the Business Operations Manager.
Technical Expectations:
- Ability to manage Feeder/DT energy reading and identify sources of commercial loss
- Understanding of meter types tamper indicators, and bypass detection techniques
- Competence in load profile analysis and consumption trend interpretation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Accounting, Business, or related field
- Minimum 10 years in electricity distribution, with at least 2 years in revenue assurance or commercial operations
- Demonstrated experience in revenue collection drives, energy audit, and debt recovery.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills; proficiency in Excel or utility billing software.
