Key Responsibilities
Quantity Take-Offs:
- Assist in measuring quantities from architectural and engineering drawings.
- Prepare basic Bills of Quantities (BOQ) under supervision.
- Verify measurements for project estimates and valuations.
Cost Estimation:
- Support the preparation of cost estimates for construction and maintenance projects.
- Gather and analyze pricing information for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Assist in preparing cost comparisons and budget reports.
Tendering and Procurement:
- Assist in the preparation of tender documents and bid evaluations.
- Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Maintain records of supplier pricing and procurement activities.
Project Cost Control:
- Monitor project expenditures and compare actual costs against budgets.
- Assist in tracking variations and change orders.
- Support the preparation of interim valuations and payment certificates.
Site Visits and Inspections:
- Participate in site inspections and progress assessments.
- Verify completed work for valuation and payment purposes.
- Collect site data and measurements as required.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate project cost records and files.
- Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and cost summaries.
- Assist in updating project documentation and contract records.
Contract Administration:
- Support the administration of construction contracts.
- Assist in reviewing contract documents and project specifications.
- Help track contractual obligations and project deliverables.
Coordination and Communication:
- Liaise with engineers, architects, project managers, suppliers, and contractors.
- Attend project meetings and take notes where required.
- Assist in resolving quantity and cost-related queries.
Software and Technical Support:
- Utilize Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, and quantity surveying software for project tasks.
- Support data entry and analysis for project costing and reporting.
Other Duties:
- Carry out any other assignments delegated by the Senior Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager, or Management.
Educational Qualifications
- Degree in Quantity Surveying
Professional Qualifications
Student membership of relevant professional bodies is an added advantage at the following:
- Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors
- Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria
Experience:
- Previous industrial training (SIWES) or internship experience in construction, project management, or quantity surveying is an added advantage.
- No prior work experience is required for entry-level internship positions.
Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of quantity surveying principles and practices.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or other construction software is an added advantage.
- Basic understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, and BOQ preparation.
