Purpose of the Role

  • The Credit Officer is responsible for assessing new financing applicants using information obtained from the Territory Development Officers (TDOs) following a strict and prescribed credit assessment process. This role is analytical, requiring strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and consistent achievement of daily and weekly credit application targets.

Key Responsibilities
Creditworthiness Assessment:

  • Assess client income, expenditure patterns, savings, employment stability, financial behaviour, character, personality, risk profile, criminal check, and overall repayment capacity.
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, risks, and potential fraud indicators.
  • Conduct structured, in-depth interviews with prospective clients and their guarantors to obtain truthful and accurate information essential for evaluating their creditworthiness and guarantors’ capacity to act as guarantors.
  • Prepare credit reports and make recommendations in alignment with company credit policies for submission to the Credit Manager and Head of Operations.

KYC Document Collection G Compliance:

  • Obtain and verify all necessary documents required and submitted for KYC, including NIN, BVN, mobile number, physical residential address and work address, proof of residence, proof of income, bank statements, and all supporting information obtained.
  • Ensure all client files comply with regulatory standards and compliance and internal audit requirements.
  • Maintain accurate digital and physical records as part of the loan underwriting process.

KYC Document Collection G Compliance:

  • Obtain and verify all necessary documents required and submitted for KYC, including NIN, BVN, mobile number, physical residential address and work address, proof of residence, proof of income, bank statements, and all supporting information obtained.
  • Ensure all client files comply with regulatory standards and compliance and internal audit requirements.
  • Maintain accurate digital and physical records as part of the loan underwriting process.

Credit Assessment:

  • Conduct in-person credit assessment interviews with applicants with friendliness, fluency, maturity and dignity.
  • Effectively use a tablet or laptop to upload all the required information to the company’s loan origination system. Ensuring high-quality data input is imperative.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
You will be measured and evaluated against clearly defined productivity and quality standards, including:

  • Daily and weekly credit application completion targets (number of fully processed and submitted applications).
  • Turnaround time for credit assessments and field verification reports.
  • Accuracy and completeness of submitted applications (low return-rate due to errors or missing documents).
  • Compliance with KYC and verification standards (zero tolerance for non-compliance).
  • Ǫuality of environmental assessment reports based on audit reviews.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a credible University, preferably in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in credit assessment, microfinance, vehicle finance, or similar lending environments.
  • Solid understanding of credit analysis, affordability assessment, and KYC regulations.
  • Previous field verification experience in financial services is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel frequently for fieldwork.
