Job Title: Obstetrician / Gynecologist (OB/GYN)

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Description

  • Open Hospital is seeking a qualified and compassionate Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN) to provide comprehensive healthcare services to women, including preventive care, diagnosis, treatment, and management of reproductive health conditions.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for providing obstetric care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods, as well as gynecological consultations, procedures, and surgeries.

Key Responsibilities
Obstetrics:

  • Provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to patients.
  • Monitor the health and development of both mother and fetus throughout pregnancy.
  • Manage normal and high-risk pregnancies.
  • Perform vaginal deliveries and Caesarean sections (C-sections) when required.
  • Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies and complications.
  • Educate expectant mothers on pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care.

Gynecology:

  • Diagnose and treat disorders affecting the female reproductive system.
  • Conduct routine gynecological examinations and screenings.
  • Manage conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, menstrual disorders, infertility, infections, and reproductive cancers.
  • Perform gynecological surgeries and procedures as required.
  • Provide family planning and contraceptive counseling services.
  • Offer menopause management and women's wellness services.

Clinical Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and laboratory results.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and clinical case reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with established clinical guidelines and standards of practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audit.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Complete all medical documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and hospital activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to staff education, mentoring, and training programs when required.

Eligibility
Education:

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology from a recognized professional body (e.g., National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Surgeons, or equivalent).

Experience:

  • 3–5 years post-specialization experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Experience managing both routine and high-risk obstetric and gynecological cases.
  • Proven surgical competence in gynecological and obstetric procedures.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Valid medical license issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
  • Current Annual Practicing License.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support certifications are an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent clinical and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong surgical and procedural expertise.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
  • High level of professionalism, ethics, and patient confidentiality.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems.

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and on-call schedules.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies promptly.
  • Work environment includes outpatient clinics, wards, operating theatres, and labor and delivery units.
