Job Description

  • St. Dominic Catholic Hospital is seeking a highly competent, experienced, and compassionate Registered Midwife to serve as the Maternity Administrative Manager/Head of Department (H.O.D) for the Maternity Unit.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily clinical and administrative operations of the maternity unit, ensuring quality maternal and neonatal care, supervising staff, maintaining professional standards, and coordinating activities within the department for efficient healthcare delivery.
  • The ideal candidate must possess strong leadership abilities, excellent clinical knowledge in maternal care, and the capacity to effectively manage staff and patient care operations within the unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all activities within the maternity unit.
  • Provide quality maternal and newborn nursing/midwifery care in accordance with professional standards.
  • Oversee labour, delivery, antenatal, postnatal, and emergency maternity services.
  • Monitor and ensure proper documentation and patient record management within the department.
  • Prepare and manage staff duty rosters and departmental scheduling.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nurses, midwives, and nurse assistants within the unit.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and ethical standards.
  • Coordinate staff trainings, departmental meetings, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Monitor patient care standards and address complaints or service gaps promptly.
  • Collaborate with doctors, laboratory staff, pharmacy, and other departments to ensure efficient patient management.
  • Maintain adequate inventory and proper utilization of maternity equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure effective communication and teamwork within the department.
  • Participate in hospital management meetings and provide departmental reports when required.
  • Promote compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered care at all times.

Education & Professional Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) qualification
  • Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council practicing license
  • Additional management or administrative qualification is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • 5–10 years experience in maternity or obstetric care
  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience is highly preferred.
