Job Title: Junior Safety Officer

Location: Ngaski LGA, Kebbi
Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

  • We are seeking a proactive and safety-conscious Junior Safety Officer to support the implementation and monitoring of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs across our mining operations.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with the HSE team to promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and help maintain a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing the company's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct routine site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Monitor compliance with safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Assist in preparing safety reports, inspection records, and HSE documentation.
  • Support safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
  • Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance.
  • Report safety violations, near misses, and unsafe acts to the appropriate authority.
  • Assist in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety observations, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years' experience in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), preferably within mining, construction, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
  • NYSC completion certificate or evidence of exemption is preferred.
  • Possession of HSE certifications such as HSE Level 1, 2 & 3, NEBOSH, IOSH, or related qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Good report-writing and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to work in a mining site environment.

Candidates with any of the following will have an added advantage:

  • Experience working on mining, quarry, construction, or industrial sites
  • Knowledge of Nigerian mining safety regulations
  • Basic understanding of environmental management practices
  • First Aid, Fire Safety, or Emergency Response certifications
  • Ability to work in remote operational locations and adapt to site-based work environments.
