Job Title: Head of Department (HOD) - Farm Management

Location: Kwali, Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

  • The Head of Department (HOD) – Farm Management is a senior operational leadership role responsible for providing overall direction, coordination, and management of all farm operations across the organization.
  • The role holder will oversee end-to-end operational activities covering crop production, livestock and animal management, irrigation systems, mechanization, processing operations, logistics, and support services.
  • The HOD will ensure operational efficiency, productivity optimization, quality assurance, cost control, and sustainable farming practices across all operational units.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all farm operations, including crop production, livestock management, irrigation, mechanization, processing, logistics, and support services.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, production schedules, resource allocation strategies, and performance targets to drive productivity, efficiency, profitability, and sustainability.
  • Oversee crop and livestock operations, ensuring effective management of planting, irrigation, harvesting, animal welfare, feeding, breeding, disease prevention, and post-harvest activities.
  • Manage irrigation systems, farm machinery, agricultural infrastructure, storage facilities, greenhouses, and processing operations to ensure operational readiness and efficiency.
  • Lead, supervise, and build the capacity of Unit Managers and farm teams through performance management, coaching, accountability systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, HSE standards, environmental sustainability practices, and operational risk management measures.
  • Develop and monitor operational budgets, optimize the use of farm resources and assets, and prepare periodic operational and performance reports for Management.
  • Promote research, innovation, and adoption of modern agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices to enhance operational performance and long-term growth.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports Directly To: Directorate
  • Directly Supervisees: 4 Unit Managers

Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Science, Agribusiness Management, Operations Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant postgraduate qualification will be desirable.
  • professional certifications in agriculture, operations management, livestock management, irrigation systems, HSE, or project management will be an added advantage

Experience:

  • 7-10 years’ progressive experience in large-scale agricultural operations and farm management.
  • Proven experience managing integrated crop and livestock operations at a senior operational management level.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex operational teams within the agribusiness sector.
  • Experience working on donor-funded agricultural programs and projects will be desirable.
