Job Title: ESG, QHSE & Compliance Manager

About the Role

  • We are looking for an experienced ESG, QHSE & Compliance Manager to lead our Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) agenda, Health & Safety systems, and compliance framework across operations.
  • The role ensures that all projects and activities meet required regulatory, environmental, safety, quality, and sustainability standards while supporting continuous improvement across the business.
  • This position plays a critical leadership role in safeguarding people, protecting the environment, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring compliance with both local regulations and donor/investor requirements.

Key Responsibilities
ESG & Sustainability:

  • Drive ESG strategy alignment across all operations and projects
  • Track, measure, and report ESG and SDG performance indicators
  • Lead sustainability and climate-smart reporting initiatives
  • Support donor and investor ESG compliance reporting

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):

  • Develop and enforce health and safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments across sites and operations
  • Ensure proper PPE usage and worker safety compliance
  • Lead incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions
  • Oversee environmental compliance (waste, water, effluent, chemicals, emissions)

Quality, Compliance & Systems:

  • Establish and maintain QHSE management systems
  • Coordinate ISO readiness and certification processes (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 basics)
  • Ensure adherence to quality control standards across operations
  • Maintain regulatory compliance documentation and audit readiness

Operations Oversight:

  • Monitor contractor and site compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Review operational practices to ensure alignment with company policies
  • Identify gaps and implement corrective and preventive measures

Authority & Decision Rights:
This role carriesstop-work authorityand may:

  • Stop any unsafe work immediately
  • Reject work that does not meet required quality standards
  • Escalate serious compliance, safety, or environmental issues directly to the CEO/MD
  • Recommend suspension of non-compliant operations or contractors where necessary

Requirements
Experience:

  • 5–10 years’ experience in ESG, HSE, compliance, environmental management, agriculture, or construction environments
  • Proven experience managing safety systems and compliance frameworks

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001 or equivalents)
  • Experience in HSE reporting and incident management systems
  • Strong understanding of ESG/SDG frameworks and sustainability reporting
  • Risk assessment and mitigation planning experience
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in operational/project environments

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership and authority in compliance enforcement
  • Excellent reporting and documentation skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of accountability
  • Ability to influence teams and enforce standards across departments
