Legend Golden Care Foundation (LGCF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting social justice and human rights. LGCF works to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations, including women, children and inmates through holistic and evidence-based approaches combining pro bono legal services, psychosocial support, livelihood empowerment, education, and advocacy to create sustainable impact. We work across three key thematic areas, including access to justice and security, rehabilitation, and gender.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Senior PR and Communications Officer

Location: Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

  • The Senior PR and Communications Officer will drive the organisation’s visibility, credibility, and public positioning.
  • The successful candidate will oversee the planning and delivery of strategic communication programmes, ensure effective communication flow within the organization and with external stakeholders, oversee digital platforms, strengthen media relations, and ensure consistent and impactful storytelling across all communication channels.
  • This position requires a strategic communications professional with the capacity to enhance organisational visibility efforts, strengthen stakeholder engagement, drive advocacy communications, and ensure that all communication activities effectively support LGCF's mission, programmes, and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications and Advocacy:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication and advocacy strategies that align with LGCF's goals and objectives.
  • Develop, validate, execute, and regularly review project-related and organisational communication plans and policies.
  • Identify target audiences and create tailored messaging for different stakeholders.
  • Monitor and adapt communication strategies in response to changing opportunities and organisational priorities.
  • Design communication and marketing strategies for new projects, campaigns, events, and organisational initiatives.
  • Coordinate digital advocacy campaigns, awareness creation initiatives, and knowledge-sharing events.
  • Prepare key messages, statements, talking points, success stories, and background documents for LGCF programmes and projects.

Media Relations and Public Engagement:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, media houses, influencers, and communication stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive media contact database.
  • Prepare and disseminate press releases, media advisories, newsletters, press kits, and other media materials.
  • Respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews, media appearances, and public engagements.
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare detailed media activity reports.
  • Manage communication-related issues and organisational reputation in a timely manner.
  • Develop response strategies for reputational risks and negative media coverage.

Content Development and Knowledge Management:

  • Lead the development of written, designed, and audio-visual content for LGCF's communication platforms.
  • Create engaging content including articles, blogs, newsletters, reports, social media content, podcasts, infographics, videos, and visual presentations.
  • Ensure all content aligns with LGCF's branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Provide technical assistance for writing, editing, and production of research and knowledge products.
  • Create and facilitate knowledge-building sessions for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Simplify complex technical information into accessible communication products for diverse audiences.

Digital Communications:

  • Manage and oversee LGCF's website and social media platforms.
  • Ensure regular updates of LGCF's website, databases, and digital communication channels.
  • Develop and implement social media content calendars.
  • Monitor online engagement and social media analytics.
  • Engage audiences across digital platforms and respond appropriately to online interactions.
  • Organize and coordinate online campaigns and digital awareness activities.

Branding and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure quality control and validation of all communication and branding materials before dissemination.
  • Review graphics, publications, promotional materials, logos, and visual content to ensure compliance with LGCF branding standards.
  • Coordinate the design, production, and dissemination of brochures, newsletters, reports, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain an organized repository of communication materials and publications.

Leadership and Coordination:

  • Support organisational leadership in advancing strategic communication objectives.
  • Work with programme teams to develop communication approaches for projects and interventions.
  • Supervise communication-related projects and ensure publication readiness of all materials.
  • Collaborate with departments to generate innovative communication strategies and ideas.
  • Support fundraising efforts through the development of communication and visibility plans.
  • Manage communication budgets and resources effectively.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree or HND in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience in a similar role preferably in a Non-Governmental Organisation ( NGO).
  • Demonstrated experience leading the development and implementation of advocacy and communication strategies.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders including traditional and digital media entities.
  • A highly creative and innovative individual with excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills and ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Experience and proficiency in managing social media platforms, digital communication tools/technologies and strong knowledge of communication policies and practices.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, content development and storytelling skills.
  • Strong research and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex issues for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and office productivity tools.
  • Experience using content management systems and communication technologies.
  • Ability to create graphic designs using Canva and related software.
  • Familiarity with podcasting trends and creativity in developing unique and engaging podcasts.
  • Ability to develop project-based communication strategies.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organisational, time management skills and ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and team coordination abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
