Job Title: Coating & Painting Inspector (QA / QC)

Location: Ikorodu, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • Our organization is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Coating & Painting Inspector (QA / QC) to join our team in Ikorodu, Lagos.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in welding inspection, coating and painting quality control, fabrication processes, and compliance with international standards within manufacturing, oil & gas, steel structures, transmission towers, telecom towers, and general fabrication environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform coating and painting inspections in accordance with approved project specifications, procedures, and international standards.
  • Conduct surface preparation inspections, coating application inspections, dry film thickness (DFT) measurements, adhesion testing, holiday testing, and final coating assessments.
  • Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT) as required.
  • Monitor fabrication and welding activities to ensure compliance with quality requirements and project specifications.
  • Interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and assembly drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Prepare inspection reports, quality records, and documentation in line with ISO and project requirements.
  • Monitor and inspect welding activities utilizing processes such as SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and GMAW.
  • Coordinate and witness NDT activities including VT, MT, PT, UT, and RT.
  • Investigate quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of welding jigs and fixtures to improve quality and reduce distortion.
  • Participate in internal and external audits and ensure compliance with ISO/IMS procedures.
  • Support implementation of 5S initiatives and workplace safety standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with production, engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 6–8 years of experience in welding inspection, coating inspection, painting inspection, and fabrication quality control.
  • Experience within Oil & Gas, steel manufacturing, structural fabrication, transmission towers, telecom towers, solar structures, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes and quality assurance systems.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, welding symbols, codes, and standards.
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality Management Systems, IMS requirements, and ERP / SAP systems.

Preferred Certifications:
Candidates should possess one or more of the following certifications:

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • NACE Coating Inspector Level 1/2/3 or AMPP Coating Inspector Certification.
  • BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector Certification.
  • CSWIP Welding Inspector Certification (3.1 or higher).
  • ASNT Level II Certification in NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT).
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor Certification.
  • NEBOSH, HSE Level 1–3, or equivalent Safety Certification.
