Job Title: Accountant 

Location: Abuja (FCT) 
Employment Type: Full-time

Description

  • As part of our client's continued growth and expansion, they are seekinga qualified and experienced Accountant to join its finance team and support the organization's financial operations and strategic objectives.
  • The Accountant will be responsible for managing the company's financial records, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, preparing accurate financial reports, and supporting management in making informed business decisions.
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity, optimizing financial processes, and ensuring effective financial control across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, journals, and accounting documentation.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and management accounts.
  • Prepare income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other financial reports.
  • Monitor and manage company cash flow and financial performance.
  • Conduct regular bank, supplier, and customer account reconciliations.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis reports.
  • Support management with financial planning and strategic decision-making.

Taxation & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure timely preparation and filing of statutory returns, including:
    • VAT
    • PAYE
    • Withholding Tax (WHT)
    • Company Income Tax
    • Pension Contributions
    • NSITF and ITF obligations
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Nigerian accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Process supplier invoices and payments promptly.
  • Monitor customer accounts and ensure timely collection of receivables.
  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions.

Audit & Internal Controls:

  • Coordinate internal and external audit activities.
  • Implement and maintain effective financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend corrective measures.

Payroll Administration:

  • Prepare and process payroll accurately and on schedule.
  • Ensure proper deduction and remittance of taxes, pensions, and statutory contributions.

Systems & Process Improvement:

  • Maintain accounting software and financial databases.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and control.

General Administration:

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by management.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timeliness and accuracy of financial reports.
  • Compliance with statutory filing deadlines.
  • Accuracy of reconciliations and financial records.
  • Effective cash flow management.
  • Reduction in financial discrepancies and audit findings.
  • Timely processing of payroll and vendor payments.

Person Specification
Educational Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Role is based in Abuja, candidate must reside in Abuja or willing to relocate.

Desirable:

  • Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (MBA).
  • Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, ICAN, ANAN, or equivalent.

Experience:
Essential:

  • 3–10 years' proven experience in accounting, finance, or a similar role.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and management reports.
  • Experience with taxation and regulatory compliance in Nigeria.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a consulting, professional services, property management, manufacturing, or service-oriented organization.
  • Experience with audit processes and financial controls.

Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and statutory compliance requirements.

Remuneration
