Role Overview

  • The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be the second most senior leader in the organization and the primary driver of operational excellence, business performance, and people leadership across all business units.
  • Reporting directly to the Group CEO and the Board, the COO will serve as the internal architect of the company's day-to-day operations, translating high-level strategy into measurable outcomes, building a culture of accountability, and ensuring that every division of the business is functioning at full capacity.
  • This is a role for an executive who commands respect without demanding it, whose gravitas, track record, and people skills naturally position them as a leader that teams trust, clients value, and peers look to for direction.
  • The successful candidate will be deeply commercial, highly strategic, and passionate about building businesses that make an impact.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Excellence:

  • Oversee the end-to-end operations of all business units, ensuring performance, quality, and alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve operational frameworks, processes, and systems that scale with the business.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and ensure seamless coordination between technology, commercial, finance, and support functions.
  • Lead operational efficiency initiatives that reduce cost, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve profitability.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across all business divisions.

Revenue Generation & Commercial Growth:

  • Develop and execute commercial strategies to drive revenue growth across all business verticals.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities, strategic partnerships, and revenue streams in collaboration with business unit leaders.
  • Champion the commercialization of the company's technology assets, IP, and service capabilities.
  • Build and maintain high-value relationships with clients, investors, regulators, and strategic partners.
  • Lead or support pricing strategy, contract negotiations, and client retention initiatives.
  • Monitor revenue performance at divisional level and hold business units accountable to targets.

People Management & Organizational Development:

  • Provide inspirational, authoritative leadership to a diverse, multi-disciplinary workforce across technology, operations, and commercial functions.
  • Build and sustain a high-performance organizational culture grounded in accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a senior leadership team comprising heads of each business unit.
  • Oversee talent acquisition, performance management, succession planning, and retention strategies in partnership with HR.
  • Resolve complex organizational and interpersonal challenges with emotional intelligence, decisiveness, and fairness.
  • Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe environment where diverse perspectives are valued and teams are empowered to perform.

Strategy Execution & Corporate Governance:

  • Partner with the Group CEO and Board to define and refine the company's short, medium, and long-term strategic priorities.
  • Translate approved strategic plans into operational roadmaps with clear ownership, milestones, and accountability structures.
  • Present regular operational performance reports to the Board, shareholders, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the company maintains full compliance with applicable regulations across all jurisdictions and sectors of operation.
  • Oversee enterprise risk management across operations, cybersecurity, data governance, and financial controls.

Financial Oversight & Resource Management:

  • Collaborate closely with the CFO to manage budgeting, financial forecasting, and planning across business units.
  • Monitor P&L performance at divisional level and lead corrective actions where performance falls below target.
  • Optimize resource allocation to maximize return on investment across operational areas.
  • Support the CEO in fundraising, investor relations, and any M&A activities as required.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Computer Science, or a related discipline. An MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience, with at least 3 years at C-suite or equivalent executive level.
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and delivering results across complex, multi-business-unit organizations.
  • Deep expertise in people management at scale, including leading senior leadership teams across multiple functions and business units.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance frameworks.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Gross Salary: N12,000,000 – N18,000,000 per annum commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated track record.
