A reputable oil exploration and production company, focused on the development of oil fields and midstream assets in the Niger Delta is recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Legal Counsel (Oil & Gas Contract & Compliance) 

Location:  Lagos, Nigeria

Job Summary 

  • We are seeking a young driven legal officer with 3 - 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE) to join its Legal & Regulatory Affairs team in Lagos.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead negotiations and drafting of high-value contracts: PSCs, JVAS, OML/OPL transactions, EPC, FPSO, drilling, and service agreements. 
  • Manage complex litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations / engagements with NUPRC, FIRS, NCDMB.
  • Provide transactional support for M&A, farm-ins/farm-outs, asset acquisitions/divestments.
  • Develop internal policies, train business teams on legal risk, and oversee external counsel.
  • Support corporate governance, board matters, and company secretarial duties.

Requirements

  • LLB + BL with first or second class upper division from a reputable university with 3-5 years Post- Qualification Experience (PQE) in a top-tier law firm and/or in- house oil & gas/energy company.
  • Deep knowledge of Nigerian oil & gas law, PIA 2021, PSC/JOA structures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven track record negotiating high value transactions and managing disputes.
  • Strong commercial acumen + excellent drafting, advisory, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Member of Nigerian Bar Association NBA. LL.M, ACArb, or CIPM is an advantage.
  • Must demonstrate high integrity, confidentiality, and ability to work with executives.
