We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Production Manager

Location: Jos, Plateau
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

  • The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all mineral processing and production activities at the company's Jos processing facility.
  • The role is accountable for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective plant operations while achieving production targets, maintaining product quality standards, optimizing resource utilization, and driving continuous operational improvement.
  • The successful candidate will provide leadership to production teams, ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements, and support the company's ongoing expansion of processing capacity through improved plant performance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilties
Production Operations Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily mineral processing and production activities to achieve production targets.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of plant equipment, manpower, raw materials, and consumables.
  • Monitor production processes and plant performance to maximize throughput and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to approved production schedules and operational plans.
  • Oversee shift operations and ensure continuity of production activities.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve productivity.

Plant Performance & Process Optimization:

  • Monitor key production metrics, including throughput, recovery rates, plant utilization, and processing efficiency.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at improving production output, reducing waste, and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Evaluate production data and operational reports to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support the integration and efficient utilization of newly installed processing equipment.
  • Collaborate with technical and maintenance teams to improve plant reliability and performance.

Leadership & People Management:

  • Lead, supervise, and develop production personnel, operators, and supervisors.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and monitor team performance.
  • Conduct regular coaching, mentoring, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Ensure all processed minerals meet required quality specifications and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with laboratory and quality control personnel to maintain product consistency.
  • Investigate quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.

Health, Safety & Environmental Management:

  • Ensure full compliance with all Health, Safety, Environment, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the production department.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and ensure safe operating practices.
  • Investigate operational incidents and implement corrective measures where required.
  • Ensure compliance with mining, environmental, and government regulations.

Maintenance Coordination:

  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Support preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Monitor equipment availability and minimize production downtime.
  • Participate in planning shutdowns and major maintenance activities.

Cost Control & Resource Management:

  • Monitor consumption of raw materials, consumables, fuel, spare parts, and utilities.
  • Implement measures to reduce operational waste and control production costs.
  • Ensure efficient allocation and utilization of production resources.
  • Support budget preparation and cost optimization initiatives.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement:

  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
  • Analyse production trends and operational performance indicators.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations to management on operational improvements and production strategies.
  • Track and report departmental KPIs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in Operations Management, Production Management, HSE, Project Management, or related fields will be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in mineral processing, mining operations, beneficiation plants, quarry operations, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Proven experience managing production teams and achieving operational targets.
  • Experience working in mineral processing or mining-related operations is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in process optimization and operational efficiency improvement.

Knowledge & Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mineral processing operations and beneficiation processes.
  • Understanding of production planning, process control, and operational management.
  • Knowledge of equipment performance monitoring and plant efficiency optimization.
  • Understanding of quality management systems and quality assurance practices.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental standards applicable to mining and industrial operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and production reporting tools.
