Currently, MSF France is co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local government departments of health on various projects. Our current focus is a VVF and maternity response in Jahun, Jigawa state, and Malaria and Nutrition response in Katsina state with its coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Midwife Mentor
Location: Jahun, Jigawa
Contract Type: Fixed Term (6 months, Maternity Leave Cover)
Contract: 208 working hours per month
Main Purpose
- Prepare, provide and present health education sessions to the population/patients according MSF principles and values in order to promote health information through health measures and hygiene conditions as well as provide information about MSF activities in order to facilitate access to healthcare.
Job Description
- Provide high‑quality maternal and newborn care in accordance with MSF protocols across antenatal, delivery, and postnatal services.
- Support and mentor midwives and maternity staff to strengthen clinical skills, adherence to protocols, and quality of care.
- Ensure the safe management of normal deliveries and obstetric emergencies, and timely referral of complicated cases.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, including maternal and neonatal death reviews and monitoring of key indicators.
- Promote and enforce infection prevention and control (IPC) standards within maternity services.
- Support proper follow‑up of mothers and newborns, including breastfeeding, vaccination, and health education.
- Ensure availability and appropriate use of drugs, medical supplies, and equipment, and support stock monitoring.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communication, particularly during shift handovers and for high‑risk cases.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (doctors, nurses, lab, pharmacy, etc.) to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Promote respectful and confidential maternity care, safeguarding the dignity and rights of patients at all times.
Requirements
Education:
- Essential: Midwifery qualification.
- Desired: Bachelor`s Degree in Midwifery.
Experience:
- Essential working experience of at least two years in midwife activities related jobs.
Languages
- Essential: English, Hausa
- Desirable: Fulani (Fulfude).

Remuneration
According to MSF salary scale plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
