Job Title: RF / POP Engineer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Role Overview

  • We are looking for an RF / POP Engineer to bridge the gap between our wireless access infrastructure and our core network backbone.

Key Responsibilities
RF Engineering & Wireless Infrastructure:

  • Link Planning: Perform path analysis and site surveys for Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) microwave/millimeter-wave backhaul links.
  • Spectrum Management: Monitor frequency utilization, mitigate interference, and perform channel planning to optimize throughput and signal quality.
  • Hardware Deployment: Oversee the installation, alignment, and commissioning of outdoor radio units, antennas, GPS sync modules, and surge suppression systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze SNR, RSSI, and modulation rates to troubleshoot connectivity issues and improve link stability.

POP Infrastructure & Operations:

  • Site Management: Maintain physical POP sites (data centers, telecom shelters, or tower cabinets), ensuring proper power distribution (DC/AC), grounding, environmental cooling, and cable management.
  • Network Integration: Rack, stack, and configure aggregation switches and edge routers to terminate local wireless and fiber loops into the network core.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitor port utilization and bandwidth saturation at POP sites; execute hardware upgrades as required by traffic growth.
  • Security & Compliance: Enforce physical security protocols at remote sites and ensure all installations adhere to telecommunications safety and building codes.

Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
Technical Competencies:

  • Wireless Technologies: Deep understanding of wireless standards (e.g., 802.11ac/ax, LTE/5G, proprietary microwave systems like Cambium, Ubiquiti, Aviat, or Ceragon).
  • Networking Fundamentals: Solid grasp of OSI Layer 2/3 (VLANs, Subnetting, OSPF/BGP, Static Routing).
  • Physical Layer: Proficiency in fiber optic handling (cleaning, splicing, SFP installation) and structured copper cabling (Cat6/Cat6A).
  • Tools: Experience with RF planning software (e.g., LinkPlanner, Pathloss) and network monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, SolarWinds, PRTG, or NetFlow).

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field (or equivalent field-certified experience).
    Experience: 3 years in a field engineering, tower climbing, or ISP operations role.
