Job Title: Finance Officer
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Summary
- The Finance Officer will be responsible for supporting the financial management, accounting, budgeting, reporting, and compliance functions of the organization.
- The role will ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, effective internal controls, and compliance with statutory and organizational requirements.
- The Finance Officer will work closely with the Head of Support Services and support programs and management teams on transparent and accountable use of resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with organizational policies and accepted accounting standards.
- Prepare payment vouchers, journals, bank reconciliations, cashbooks, and other finance documentation.
- Support preparation and monitoring of organizational, project, and donor budgets.
- Review and process staff advances, retirements, vendor payments, and other financial transactions.
- Ensure all payments are properly supported, authorized, coded, and filed.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, donors, and regulatory authorities.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and provide timely variance analysis.
- Support grant financial management, including donor reporting, compliance checks, and budget realignments.
- Maintain effective internal controls and support implementation of finance policies and procedures.
- Assist with statutory deductions, tax remittances, pension contributions, and other compliance obligations.
- Coordinate with auditors during internal and external audits by providing required schedules and supporting documents.
- Support procurement and logistics processes by ensuring financial complianceand value-for-money documentation.
- Maintain proper filing systems for finance records, both physical andelectronic.
- Provide financial guidance to program staff on budget utilization, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Perform any other finance-related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting, Finance,Economics, or a related field. Five years of progressively responsible finance or accounting experience.
- Experience working with a national NGO, international NGO, donor-funded project, or development organization is highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal control procedures.
- Professional certification or progress toward certification such as ACA, ACCA, or equivalent is strongly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
