Job Summary
- The Accounting Officer is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and supporting the institution's financial management processes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Record Management:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
- Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Ensure proper filing and safekeeping of financial documents.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Assist in the preparation of management accounts.
- Generate financial statements and supporting schedules.
Reconciliation Activities:
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor cash positions and account balances.
Accounts Payable and Receivable;
- Process supplier invoices and payments.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on collections.
- Verify payment requests and supporting documents.
Budget and Cost Control:
- Assist in budget preparation and implementation.
- Monitor departmental expenditures against approved budgets.
- Report budget variances and recommend corrective actions.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and accounting procedures.
- Assist in statutory remittances including taxes, pension contributions, and other regulatory obligations.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements.
Audit Support:
- Prepare schedules and documentation required for internal and external audits.
- Respond to audit queries and implement audit recommendations.
- Maintain audit-ready financial records.
Treasury and Cash Management:
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity positions.
- Assist in cash forecasting and fund management.
- Ensure proper management of petty cash and operational funds.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Professional Qualifications (Advantage):
- Associate Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)
- Associate Member of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN)
- Certification from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
- Other relevant accounting certifications.
Experience:

2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a financial institution, microfinance bank, finance company, or commercial bank.
Technical Skills:
