Job Title: Senior Commercial Manager (QS / Procurement)

Role Overview
- The Senior Commercial Manager will serve as the commercial authority across all projects, driving profitability, contractual excellence, and disciplined financial governance.
- This role is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy and influence, shaping commercial strategy, optimising margins, and ensuring best-in-class contract and cost management practices.

- and elevating the organisation’s commercial capability and strengthening commercial performance and discipline.
Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Leadership:
- Lead commercial function across projects, aligning with financial objectives and margin targets
- Support executive decision-making on pricing, contracts, and risk positioning
- Drive improvements in processes, systems, and governance standards
- Provide independent, data-driven challenges to stakeholders
Contract & Financial Management:
- Manage full commercial lifecycle: bids, tendering, negotiation, execution, close-out
- Lead complex negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers (with Legal)
- Ensure strong contract administration: claims, variations, dispute resolution
- Oversee budgets, forecasts, and P&L validation
Cost & Profitability Control:
- Establish and enforce cost control frameworks
- Optimize margins via value engineering, procurement, and efficiency initiatives
- Monitor financial performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions
- Deliver accurate financial reporting, valuations, and cost analysis
Bidding & Business Development:
- Lead bid preparation with competitive and strategic positioning
- Develop pricing strategies using market intelligence and risk-adjusted returns
- Oversee vendor/subcontractor prequalification for compliance
- Support business development through opportunity evaluation and feasibility analysis
Risk Management & Governance:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks
- Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and governance requirements
- Implement best practices in probity, audit readiness, and documentation
Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain strong client, partner, and supplier relationships
- Influence cross-functional teams to achieve commercial outcomes
- Mentor and develop commercial and QS team members
Procurement & Supply Chain Leadership:
- Define and implement procurement strategies for efficiency, quality, and reliability
- Lead sourcing strategies: supplier selection, framework agreements, bulk purchasing
- Manage supplier ecosystem with performance evaluation and development
- Drive cost savings through negotiations and supply chain optimization
- Monitor market trends and supply risks, adjusting strategies proactively
- Ensure procurement governance, transparency, and compliance
Key Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline
- QSRBN certification is mandatory
- Master’s degree and professional memberships (RICS, NIQS, CIOB or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Minimum 12–18 years’ relevant experience, with at least 5–7 years in senior commercial leadership roles
- Demonstrated success managing large, complex infrastructure or engineering projects with full commercial and P&L accountability
- Strong experience in contract negotiation, claims management, procurement strategy, cost optimization, and commercial risk management.
