Job Summary
- We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Underwriter / Head of Underwriting to lead underwriting operations, ensure portfolio profitability, and support business growth through sound risk assessment and underwriting decisions.
- The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in insurance underwriting, risk evaluation, policy management, and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee underwriting activities across assigned insurance portfolios.
- Evaluate and assess risks to determine policy terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite.
- Review and approve complex or high-value risks within delegated authority limits.
- Monitor portfolio performance and recommend strategies to improve profitability and reduce loss ratios.
- Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to drive business growth while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Develop and implement underwriting policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure timely issuance, renewal, endorsement, and maintenance of insurance policies.
- Analyze underwriting data, claims trends, and market developments to support decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop underwriting team members to achieve departmental objectives.
- Prepare management reports and provide recommendations on portfolio performance and risk exposure.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
- Professional insurance certification (e.g., ACII, CIIN, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- 7–10 years of underwriting experience within the insurance industry.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, policy administration, and insurance regulations.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and insurance management systems.
