Job Title: Consultant Interventional Cardiologist

Job Purpose
- The Consultant, Interventional Cardiologist will provide the highest standard of clinical care in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients with cardiovascular disease, particularly those requiring interventional procedures.
- The consultant will perform catheter-based interventions, including diagnostic right and left heart catheterizations, angioplasty including primary PCI, and structural heart disease procedures such as ASD and VSD closures, TAVI, and Mitral Clip procedures.
- The role holder will also play a central role in strategic development, quality improvement, research, and education within the department.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Leadership:
- Take leadership in the explanation of procedures and diagnostic results to patients.
- Take ownership of approving patient discharges, follow-up plans, and medical reports.
- Take ownership of collaboration with colleagues to deliver a high-quality, timely service and work towards meeting the AMCE’s and departmental objectives.
- Provide leadership and training for staff in relation to interventional cardiology.
- Discuss the risks and benefits associated with any potential interventional procedure and how it would benefit the patient.
Strategic Development:
- Participate in clinical research to develop new interventional cardiology techniques for treating disease.
- Assist in the review of current policies and procedures relating to interventional cardiology, offering advice on new practices that could be implemented within the department.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to improve patient outcomes.
- Interpret complex test results, using information to provide diagnoses and treatment options to patients and other healthcare professionals.
- Explain to patients how they can prepare for any procedures that are to be carried out.
Governance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure correct governance arrangements, including the management of finance and regulatory activities where appropriate.
- Assist in monitoring resource utilisation, supplies, and expenses, ensuring compliance with organisational parameters.
- Ensure personal and departmental compliance with applicable statutory guidance, carrying out practices that meet statutory regulations and guidelines.
Qualifications
- Medical Degree (MBBS, MBBCh, MD) from a recognized medical school.
- Completed Fellowship or Residency in Cardiology from a reputable institution.
- Valid medical license.
- Extensive experience (5 years) as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist.
- Extensive experience and a successful track record of building effective partnerships with medical colleagues.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
- Special skills training in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).
- Experience in electrophysiology will be an added advantage.
