Job Purpose
- The Relations & Sustainable Development (R&SD) function delivers value by enabling our strategy and sectoral approach and improving policy and advocacy outcomes.
- Government agencies in Nigeria are evolving and becoming more assertive regarding compliance and revenue generation via fines and penalties.
- There is the need for nimble and best-in-class Relations & Sustainable Development (R&SD) leadership in this space. R&SD team is expected to bring the outside in and drive Renaissance’s reputation and values. - The RSD Policy & Advocacy team is the locus for a coordinated approach to policy & advocacy management for Renaissance.
- The team manages relationships with the Federal Government and its organs, shaping opinions externally, while providing support to internal strategy formulation and direction, toward attaining business objectives.
- As a strategic function, RSD Policy & Advocacy, works to position the company as partner of first choice with government, leveraging relationships through advocacy and appropriate business intelligence, to constructively influence government policies and direction that will enable the best possible environment for the business. To develop and implement strategies to advance the Renaissance’s positions with the government while collaborating with other operators..
Responsibilities
- Build, enhance, and sustain constructive relationships with NNPC Ltd., the Ministry of Petroleum Resources (MoPR), its agencies, and other key stakeholders to support business objectives and outcomes.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Renaissance and NNPC Ltd., MoPR, and relevant agencies, maintaining effective engagement channels and appropriate access platforms.
- Gather, assess, and proactively share intelligence on government and agency priorities, positions, and emerging issues to inform company strategy, advocacy, negotiations, and responses.
- Develop and maintain stakeholder maps and engagement plans, and coordinate engagement strategies for Renaissance business leaders with key external stakeholders.
- Conduct advocacy activities, particularly at the operational and middle-management levels, and provide feedback on stakeholder perspectives regarding issues of interest to the company.
- Maintain information on key government officials, influencers, and stakeholders, ensuring engagement records and databases remain current and accessible.
- Attend, monitor, and support key meetings between the business and external stakeholders, providing insights, interpretation of discussions, and follow-up on agreed actions.
- Maintain formal and informal dialogue with stakeholders and collaborate with the Policy and Advocacy team to produce briefings on the external environment, government policies, and regulatory developments.
- Coordinate and support Renaissance participation in industry events, conferences, sponsorships, and stakeholder engagements, particularly in Abuja.
- Serve as the Policy and Advocacy team’s planning, budget, and IT focal point, ensuring effective management and continuous improvement of communication and information management systems.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound corporate correspondence in line with business communication service standards.
- Manage the Corporate Correspondence function and Business Communication teams across Abuja and Lagos.
- Oversee corporate correspondence applications (PowerApps Information Management System, SharePoint, ASSAI, and related platforms) in partnership with IT to ensure alignment with industry best practices.
- Supervise the documentation, retention, accessibility, and governance of business correspondence records, ensuring compliance and brand consistency.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ post-graduation experience, preferably within the Energy, Oil and Gas industry in Nigeria
The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience and proficiency in the following areas:
- Information Management, Document Control, or Government Relations, with practical experience in developing and implementing digital information management systems.
- Strong understanding of corporate correspondence, document management, records retention, and information governance processes.
- Sound knowledge of Nigeria’s Energy, Oil and Gas sector, including the E&P business, and a good understanding of the roles and operations of NNPC Ltd., the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and other government institutions.
- Ability to analyse government priorities, policy developments, and stakeholder positions, and translate insights into practical business recommendations.
- Strong understanding of the external operating environment and the ability to assess stakeholder concerns, risks, opportunities, and their implications for business performance and reputation.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain productive relationships across business functions, government ministries, departments, agencies, and other external stakeholders.
- Proven capability to influence decision-making and support policy advocacy through effective stakeholder engagement and networking.
- Experience working across organisational and external boundaries to deliver business outcomes and drive collaboration.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to assimilate complex information and distil it into clear, concise, and actionable insights for senior leaders.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the credibility to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to advise and prepare senior executives for high-level stakeholder engagements and represent the organisation where appropriate.
- Good understanding of Nigeria’s political, socio-economic, and regulatory landscape, with awareness of regional and global energy sector dynamics.
- Highly motivated self-starter with resilience, tenacity, sound judgement, and the ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment.
- Strong teamwork, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and related tools
- Significant experience in one or more of the following will be an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience with specialised document and information management platforms such as PowerApps, SharePoint, ASSAI, or equivalent systems.
- Demonstrated success in leading the design, enhancement, or implementation of a digital Information Management System within the past 24 months.
- Experience serving as an interface between business and IT teams to deliver and sustain information management solutions.
- Ability to integrate local, regional, and global perspectives when assessing energy sector developments and their business impact.
