Great Impact Initiative for Sustainable Development (GIISD) is a youth-led, non-governmental organization in Nigeria and committed to advancing sustainable human development across communities through tights-based, evidence-driven and youth-centered programming. Our thematic Focus cut across SRHR, Governance and Policy,Agribusiness and Food Security Nutrition, Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability, Digital Health and AI-Enabled Solutions and WASH.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Media and Communications Officer (Volunteer)

Location: Ibadan, Oyo

Job Summary

  • The Media and Communications Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives that enhance the visibility, credibility, and impact of Great Impact Initiative for Sustainable Development (GIISD).
  • The officer will manage the organization's digital presence, document projects and success stories, engage stakeholders through various communication channels, and strengthen the organization's brand through compelling content and media relations.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications:

  • Develop and implement the organization's communication and media strategy.
  • Promote GIISD's vision, mission, programs, and impact through strategic storytelling.
  • Ensure consistent branding across all communication materials.

Content Development:

  • Create high-quality content for social media, newsletters, press releases, website, reports, brochures, and other publications.
  • Write human-interest stories, project success stories, case studies, speeches, and impact reports.
  • Produce engaging multimedia content including graphics, videos, photography, and infographics.

Social Media Management:

  • Manage and grow GIISD's social media platforms.
  • Develop monthly content calendars.
  • Monitor audience engagement and respond to inquiries appropriately.
  • Analyze social media performance and prepare monthly analytics reports.

Media Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media houses, bloggers, and influencers.
  • Coordinate media coverage for organizational events and campaigns.
  • Draft and distribute press statements and media advisories.

Documentation and Visibility:

  • Document organizational activities through photography, videography, and written reports.
  • Maintain an archive of communication materials.
  • Support donor visibility and branding requirements.

Event Communication:

  • Coordinate publicity before, during, and after organizational events.
  • Produce communication materials for trainings, conferences, outreach programs, and advocacy campaigns.

Internal Communications:

  • Support internal communication between staff, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare presentations, newsletters, and internal announcements.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track communication performance indicators.
  • Prepare periodic communication reports highlighting reach, engagement, and media coverage.
  • Recommend improvements to communication strategies.

Other Duties

  • Support fundraising and proposal development by preparing communication materials.
  • Perform any other communication - related duties assigned by management.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong storytelling and content creation ability.
  • Graphic design skills using Canva and / or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Photography and videography skills.
  • Video editing proficiency (CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, etc.).
  • Social media management and digital marketing skills.
  • Website content management (WordPress is an advantage).
  • Knowledge of branding and organizational communications.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Creativity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
