The Niger Delta University (NDU), established in 2000, is a Bayelsa State Government funded University which is located in Wilberforce Island (an island of great historic significance) about 30 kilometers from Yenagoa - Bayelsa State capital. The biodiversity of the extensive surrounding landscape opens opportunities for various collaborative research activities.

Since academic activities started in 2001 / 2002 session, we have grown from an intake of 1039 students to a thriving population of more than 20,000 students and 3518 academic and non-academic staff with a main campus and a College of Health Sciences campus in Wilberforce Island and a satellite campus housing the Faculty of Law in the State capital. In NDU, we provide our students with the opportunity to change their lives in a friendly environment. Our academic and non-academic staff are creating a conducive academic environment focusing on the development of the abilities of students. The existing twelve faculties provide diverse opportunities.

The Governing Council wishes to commence the process for the selection and appointment for a vacant position and hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position below:

Job Title: Bursar

Location: Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa

Job Summary

  • The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative and control of the financial affairs of the University.
  • The Bursar shall hold office for a single term of five years.

Requirements
The candidate is expected to: 

  • Not be below the rank of a Deputy Bursar for at least five (5) years
  • Not be more than Fifty-Five (55) years of age on assumption of office
  • Possess a good University Degree in Accountancy, a postgraduate degree will be of added advantage
  • Be a chartered member of a recognized Professional Accountancy body
  • Be knowledgeable in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and must show evidence of thorough understanding of the application of new technologies to financial operations and services
  • Be someone who has not been convicted by a competent court of law
  • Present a certificate of medical fitness from a reputable Government hospital which will be subjected to verification by the University
  • Appointment is by interview in line with the Niger Delta University Law.

Skills:

  • The Bursar shall be required to possess skills in financial reporting, treasury management, business planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting and cost controls, tax planning/management and knowledge of accounting software.

Remuneration
A consolidated salary for the University Bursar and allowances as applicable to the Nigerian University System plus other benefits as approved by the Governing Council.
