Job Title: Operations / Wellsite Geologist III - Offshore

Location: Akwa Ibom
Employment Type: Contract (Offshore)

Main Functions

  • Interpret and Integrate geological data and provide well-site geological support for drilling wells in oil fields.
  • This Includes delivering optimized horizontal well bore placement, final well reports, updated horizontal well cross-sections, maps and formation evaluation logs for recent and previously drilled wells.
  • Provide geological support for interdisciplinary reservoir study and field development plans. Develop and mentor less experience staff.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Core Wellsite Geological Services:
The primary responsibility of the Wellsite Geologist is the supervision of all wellsite geological personnel and operations, ensuring top-tier quality assurance for all geological data acquisition and reporting:

  • Geological Monitoring: Actively monitor and supervise mudlogging, Logging While Drilling (LWD), and Wireline (WL) logging operations.
  • Coring Operations: Oversee core handling, processing, and overall monitoring of coring operations.
  • Quality & Auditing: Audit geological services when appropriate to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Reporting: Compile and distribute comprehensive Well Completion Reports and daily geological updates.

Coordination of Wellsite Geological Activities:
Serve as the "Operations Geologist" to coordinate, monitor, and administer all company-operated wellsite geotechnical activities:

  • Pre-Drill Planning: Participate in the planning phases prior to spudding.
  • Vendor Management: Act as the primary point of contact for third-party geological service vendors and review/verify invoices for geological services.
  • Data & Communication: Monitor and coordinate data acquisition/analysis, disseminate critical information to stakeholders, and participate in regular teleconferences and meetings.
  • Post-Drill Logistics: Coordinate the shipment of core samples, logs, and reports, and complete special ad-hoc projects as required.

Abnormal Pressure Surveillance:

  • Ensure all abnormal pressure parameters are meticulously monitored and captured on a pressure evaluation log.
  • Review pressure data with the Company Operations Geologist and Drilling Supervisors as required.
  • Generate and distribute detailed reports compiling parameters, observations, and interpretations.

Skills and Qualifications
Education & Certifications:

  • Education: B.Sc or MS in Geology from a recognized institution.
  • Offshore Safety Certifications: Must hold current OPITO-approved certifications in Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), Sea Survival, $H_2S$ (Hydrogen Sulfide) Awareness.
  • Certifications must be current and valid for the anticipated duration of the project.
  • Physical Fitness: Must be in good physical condition and fully comply with all project health, safety, rig, and country-specific offshore requirements.

Technical Experience:

  • Industry Experience: Proven track record working as a Wellsite Geologist, specifically in offshore environments including platform and deviated well drilling.
  • Technical Operations: Extensive experience with mudlogging, cuttings description, real-time image logs, and correlating data to determine lithology and well paths.
  • Drilling Technology: Strong understanding of directional drilling, well planning, depth control measurements, and Bottom Hole Assemblies (BHAs).
  • Geological Modeling: Experience applying structural geology concepts to assess reservoir compartmentalization/communication, and collaborating with geologic modelers to integrate maps into 3D geologic models.
  • Candidates must have at least 3years of experience in the oil and gas industry

Soft Skills:

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • Excellent organizational, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within an integrated asset team environment.
