Job Title: Legal Officer

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • Mindas Petroleum Limited is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Officer to support the company’s legal and compliance functions.
  • The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for reviewing, drafting, vetting, and managing contracts and legal documents to ensure that the company’s interests are adequately protected.
  • The role also involves providing legal advice on business transactions, regulatory compliance, and corporate matters within the downstream oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities
Contract Review & Management:

  • Review, draft, vet, and negotiate contracts, agreements, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and other legal documents.
  • Identify legal risks and provide recommendations to mitigate potential liabilities.
  • Ensure all contracts comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain a centralized contract repository and monitor contract expiration and renewal dates.
  • Support various departments by reviewing commercial and operational agreements before execution.

Legal Advisory:

  • Provide legal guidance on business operations, procurement activities, vendor engagements, and corporate transactions.
  • Interpret laws, regulations, and contractual provisions affecting company operations.
  •  Advise management on legal implications of business decisions.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Monitor compliance with applicable Nigerian laws and industry regulations.
  • Assist in ensuring adherence to corporate governance standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, external counsel, and government authorities when required.

Risk Management:

  • Conduct legal risk assessments on proposed business transactions.
  • Identify and recommend solutions to legal and compliance issues.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures that reduce legal exposure.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare legal correspondence, notices, and internal legal reports.
  • Maintain accurate legal records and documentation.
  • Provide periodic reports on contract status, legal risks, and compliance matters.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Percentage of contracts reviewed within agreed turnaround time.
  • Number of contract-related risks identified and mitigated.
  • Compliance rate with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Accuracy and quality of legal documentation.
  • Timeliness of legal advice provided to internal stakeholders.
  • Reduction in contract disputes and legal exposure.
  • Effectiveness of contract tracking and renewal management.

Skills and Requirements
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (LL.B) in Law.
  • Must be called to the Nigerian Bar (BL) and possess a valid practicing license.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of post-call legal experience.
  • Experience in contract drafting, review, and legal advisory services.
  • Experience in the oil and gas, energy, manufacturing, or corporate sector will be an added advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian contract law and commercial law.
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and document management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary
N200,000 – N300,000 Monthly.
