Job Title: Senior Offshore Installation Manager (OIM)

Location: Nigeria

Job Summary

  • The Senior Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, supervision, and execution of offshore installation activities associated with offshore oil and gas projects.
  • The role provides strategic leadership for offshore construction, subsea installation, SURF operations, marine activities, hook-up, commissioning support, and asset installation campaigns, ensuring all activities are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
Offshore Installation Leadership:

  • Lead and manage all offshore installation activities during project execution.
  • Oversee offshore construction, subsea installation, SURF, pipeline installation, structural installation, hook-up, commissioning, and marine operations.
  • Ensure offshore activities are executed in accordance with approved procedures, project requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary offshore teams, contractors, vessel personnel, and subcontractors.
  • Provide leadership during critical offshore operations and decision-making processes.

Project Planning and Execution:

  • Participate in project planning, constructability reviews, installation studies, and execution strategy development.
  • Review and approve offshore installation procedures, method statements, risk assessments, lifting plans, and marine execution plans.
  • Coordinate offshore logistics, resource allocation, vessel utilization, and operational schedules.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, cost performance, and quality objectives.
  • Support project management in achieving project milestones and deliverables.

Offshore Construction and Installation Responsibilities:

  • Manage offshore installation activities involving subsea structures and manifolds, pipelines and flowlines, risers and umbilicals, jackets and topsides, mooring systems, hook-up and commissioning support, and Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance (IRM) activities.
  • Coordinate vessel operations, lifting activities, diving operations, and ROV intervention activities.
  • Ensure compliance with approved offshore execution methodologies.

Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities:

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout offshore operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, client requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead HAZID, HAZOP, SIMOPS, JSA, and operational risk assessment activities.
  • Ensure implementation of permit-to-work systems and safe work practices.
  • Lead incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Monitor environmental compliance during offshore operations.

Marine and Vessel Management:

  • Coordinate activities involving installation vessels, construction barges, pipelay vessels, diving support vessels, heavy-lift vessels, and support craft.
  • Ensure vessel operations comply with marine assurance and marine safety requirements.
  • Interface with Marine Warranty Surveyors, vessel owners, and marine authorities.
  • Support mobilization, demobilization, and offshore readiness reviews.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Serve as the primary offshore interface with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in progress meetings, technical reviews, and management reporting sessions.
  • Provide timely updates on project performance, risks, and operational issues.
  • Manage contractor performance and offshore execution interfaces.

Knowledge Transfer and Team Development:

  • Mentor and develop offshore supervisors, engineers, and local personnel.
  • Support competency development and knowledge transfer initiatives.
  • Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence programs.
  • Contribute to succession planning and local content development objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Business Administration is advantageous.
  • Professional engineering registration or membership of a recognized engineering institution is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in offshore construction, offshore installation, marine operations, or project execution within the oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in offshore management, installation management, construction management, or senior supervisory roles.
  • Extensive experience managing offshore installation campaigns involving SURF, subsea systems, pipelines, structures, and marine operations.
  • Proven experience on major deepwater and ultra-deepwater offshore developments.
  • International offshore project experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary offshore teams on complex EPCI projects.

Required Certifications:

  • BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS.
  • HUET Certification.
  • Offshore Medical Certificate.
  • HAZID/HAZOP and Risk Assessment Training.
  • Incident Investigation Training.
  • Project Management Certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is advantageous.
  • Any client-specific or project-required certifications.

Technical Skills:

  • Expert knowledge of offshore installation methodologies, marine operations, and subsea construction activities.
  • Extensive experience with SURF systems, pipeline installation, heavy lifting, offshore structures, and commissioning support.
  • Strong understanding of marine assurance, vessel operations, and offshore logistics.
  • Familiarity with DNV, API, ISO, IMCA, IOGP, and international offshore industry standards.
  • Ability to review engineering drawings, installation procedures, risk assessments, and project documentation.
  • Strong project planning, execution, and performance management capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Primavera P6, MS Project, and project reporting systems.

  • Demonstrated experience managing major offshore field developments, SURF projects, subsea tie-backs, and brownfield modifications.
  • Experience with heavy-lift operations, pipelay campaigns, diving operations, and ROV-supported installations.
  • Proven capability in mentoring and developing local offshore personnel.
  • Strong understanding of offshore regulatory requirements and marine compliance standards.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, start-up, and operational readiness activities.
