Job Description
- The Optician will be responsible for dispensing prescribed optical devices, assisting patients in selecting appropriate eyewear, ensuring accurate fitting and adjustments, and supporting the Ophthalmology/Eye Clinic in providing exceptional eye care services.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and accurately dispense spectacle prescriptions issued by ophthalmologists and optometrists.
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate frames and lenses based on their prescriptions, visual needs, and preferences.
- Take precise optical measurements, including pupillary distance and fitting heights.
- Fit, adjust, repair, and maintain spectacles and other optical devices.
- Educate patients on the proper use, care, and maintenance of prescribed eyewear.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
- Monitor and manage inventory of optical products and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention, quality assurance, and patient safety standards.
- Collaborate effectively with ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Dispensing Optics, Optometry, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- Valid practising licence and registration with the relevant professional regulatory body.
- Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience in a hospital, eye clinic, or optical practice.
- Sound knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, frames, and optical dispensing techniques.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications and electronic medical record systems is an added advantage.
