Job Title: Database Administrator

Location: Lekki, Lagos

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB) supporting production payment and merchant systems.
  • Monitor database performance, tune queries, indexes, and configurations to sustain low-latency transaction processing.
  • Design and implement backup, restore, and disaster-recovery procedures, and regularly test recovery to meet RPO/RTO targets.
  • Manage database security, access controls, and encryption in line with PCI-DSS, NDPR, and internal information-security policies.
  • Maintain database documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support audits and compliance reviews by providing evidence of database controls, access logs, and change history.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of all information accessed or obtained during the execution of your Job function. This includes refraining from disclosing confidential information to unauthorized individuals and ensuring that data is only accessed for legitimate business purposes.
  • Promptly report any suspected or actual data breaches, security incidents, or unauthorized access to data to the company’s data protection officer. Timely reporting enables the organization to assess and mitigate the impact of breaches and comply with legal obligations regarding data breach notification.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act (MLPA), Terrorism (Prevention) Act (TPA), and Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Regulations and Zest AML CFT CPF Policy. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience administering production databases in a transactional environment (fintech, banking, or e-commerce preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of MySQL; exposure to NoSQL stores such as MongoDB or Redis.
  • Solid understanding of backup/recovery, replication, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with cloud-hosted database services (Huawei RDS, AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database, or GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Working knowledge of Linux server administration and basic scripting (Bash, Python, or similar).
  • Understanding of data security, encryption, and regulatory requirements relevant to payments (PCI-DSS, NDPR).
  • Experience supporting high-availability, high-transaction-volume payment or banking systems.
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Database, Oracle/PostgreSQL certifications).
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
