Job Title: Director of Boarding (DOB)

Role Overview

  • We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and highly organised Director of Boarding to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of our boarding provision within a well-established full boarding secondary school.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of student welfare, pastoral care, safeguarding and boarding operations across the school.
  • The role provides leadership for the boarding houses, school clinic and laundry services, ensuring that all areas work collaboratively to create a safe, supportive and nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
  • The Director of Boarding will serve as the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), oversee boarding-related logistics including student travel arrangements, support the delivery of major school events and international trips, and promote continuous improvement across all boarding services.
  • The Director of Boarding reports directly to the Principal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the school's boarding provision, ensuring the highest standards of student welfare, pastoral care and boarding excellence.
  • Lead and manage the Heads of Boarding, Clinic and Laundry to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of all boarding services.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive boarding environment that prioritises students' physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
  • Serve as the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring full compliance with safeguarding policies, statutory requirements and best practice.
  • Develop, implement and monitor boarding policies, procedures and operational standards to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the effective deployment and management of boarding resources, ensuring efficiency and high-quality service delivery.
  • Work closely with academic, pastoral and support departments to provide coordinated care and support for all boarding students.
  • Monitor student welfare and provide leadership in responding to behavioural, emotional, medical and pastoral concerns.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of individual student care plans in collaboration with the medical team where required.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety, fire safety, security and statutory requirements relating to boarding operations.
  • Coordinate the preparation and annual review of the Boarding Handbook for students, parents and staff.
  • Lead the induction and orientation programme for new boarding students at the beginning of each term.
  • Coordinate boarding logistics including start and end of term travel arrangements, shuttle services and student movement.
  • Coordinate international student trips in collaboration with relevant members of staff.
  • Support the planning and successful delivery of major school events requiring boarding coordination.
  • Prepare boarding reports and other documentation required by the Principal and the School Leadership Team.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and guardians through effective communication regarding students' welfare and boarding life.
  • Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Educational Management, Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Social Work or a related discipline.
  • A Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' relevant experience in a boarding school environment, with at least five (5) years in a senior leadership position.
  • Demonstrable experience in student welfare, pastoral care, safeguarding and boarding operations.
  • Strong leadership, people management and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • High-level organisational, planning and administrative capability.
  • Sound understanding of safeguarding, child protection and boarding school best practices.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Gross Salary: N11,520,000 - N14,400,000
