AFRYDEV is a humanitarian and development organization with over 10 years of technical experience in design, development and implementation of youths, women and girls focused interventions in Northeast Nigeria. Since 2013, we focus on interventions that improves well- being and influence positive social mobility as part of our vision of change that drives and promotes safe societies where conflict-affected communities are empowered to prevent recruitment and radicalization of women and youths, including their participation in violence extremist activities, conflict, and gender-based violence.

AFRYDEV is working in three major thematic areas of, community engagement, peace building and social mobility with aim of enhancing quality of lives through provision of basic needs and essential services such as food, livelihood, water, sanitation, and basic health care such as Psychosocial Support, Skill acquisition and capacity building initiatives for youth, women, and girls, Wealth creation and access to socio-economic opportunities, Improving youth and women literacy, access to education, including formal and informal education. Employability skills trainings and job placement, Entrepreneurship Programs, access to opportunities for funding’s and start-up resources. Advocacy, Partnership development and Dialogue. AFRYDEV is currently implementing projects in Damaturu, Potiskum, Gujba, Geidam, Yusufari, Yunusari, Nangere and Fune LGAs Yobe State in the areas of Peace building and Social cohesion, Health, Early recovery and livelihood, Protection; Gender Based Violence and Mines Action.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Gender & Social Inclusion Assistant

Location: Damaturu, Yobe
Employment Type: Full-time
Gender: Female Preferabbly
Reports to: Economic and Recovery Officer
Supervises: Wakilan Sauyi facilitators, SAA facilitators, and Volunteer
Collaborates with: All component assistants, MEAL staff
Contract Duration: 9 months with possibility of extension

Position Overview

  • The Gender & Social Inclusion Assistant supports implementation of gender-transformative activities including Wakilan Sauyi dialogues, SAA sessions, GBV consultations, and ensures gender mainstreaming across all project components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of gender-transformative activities including Wakilan Sauyi dialogues, Social Analysis and Action (SAA) sessions, GBV risk consultations, and ensuring gender mainstreaming across all project components.
  • Coordinate weekly Wakilan Sauyi dialogue sessions (couples' curriculum) and bi-weekly SAA community dialogue sessions.
  • Supervise and support facilitators of Wakilan Sauyi and SAA); ensure quality delivery of gender curriculum.
  • Organize quarterly GBV risk consultations with participants; document GBV risks and challenges in accessing livelihoods.
  • Support development of risk mitigation strategies and coordinate with GBV service providers for safe referrals.
  • Support the implementation of Gender Analysis new for Yobe.
  • Conduct gender sensitivity sessions for project staff and partner CSOs.
  • Monitor women, youth, and PWD participation in activities; identify and address gender-based barriers.
  • Train facilitators on gender concepts, GBV risk mitigation, PSHEA, and safeguarding.
  • Conduct monthly facilitator coordination meetings and ongoing mentoring.
  • Build capacity of community leaders on gender issues.
  • Track gender activity implementation against targets; collect gender-disaggregated data.
  • Document testimonials, behavior change stories and contribute to gender analysis reports.
  • Coordinate marking of gender calendar days (IWD, MHM Day, 16 Days of Activism).
  • Ensure gender-responsive budgeting training for LGAs and CBOs.

Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • Bachelor's/HND in Gender Studies, Social Work, Sociology, Development Studies, or related fields

Experience:

  • Minimum 2years in gender/social inclusion programming
  • Experience facilitating gender dialogues or similar activities
  • Experience working on GBV prevention or women empowerment
  • Experience training and supervising facilitators
  • Understanding of social norms change approaches
  • Experience in Northeast Nigeria or fragile contexts (preferred)

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of gender concepts and transformative approaches
  • Understanding of GBV risk mitigation and referral pathways

Required Competencies:

Specific Contextual Requirements:

  • Understanding of gender dynamics in Northeast Nigeria
  • Ability to navigate cultural sensitivities around gender issues
  • Experience working with women, men, and mixed groups
  • Willingness to work in communities with conservative norms
  • Fluency in English and Hausa is an advantage
  • Facilitation and training skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Report writing and documentation
  • Basic understanding of MEAL for gender activities.
