Job Title: Legal Professional – West Africa (English and French)

Role Overview
- We are seeking a senior-level, hands-on Legal Professional to serve as Legal Counsel for our West African operations.
- In this role, you will manage the legal affairs of our operational entities in West Africa and provide management with your legal opinion and advice on all relevant matters. Additionally, you will support legal work concerning our international holding structure.
- While we do not expect exhaustive expertise across every single regulation, you must possess exceptional legal research skills.
- You will be expected to evaluate West African and international frameworks autonomously, delivering sharp initial assessments and clear guidance on how to proceed.
- Furthermore, you must be capable of managing and critically evaluating local external law firms when they are engaged for more specialized or critical matters, requiring more expertise than inhouse counsel alone.
Strict Requirements
- Regional jurisdictional expertise: A proven track record of executing hands-on legal work for corporate entities in both Nigeria and the Ivory Coast.
- Deep legal framework knowledge: Demonstrable experience navigating the following laws and regulations – at a minimum:
- Nigeria: Corporate law and regulations (CAMA), consumer protection laws, and labor/employment laws.
- Ivory Coast: Corporate law and regulations (OHADA), consumer protection laws, and labor/employment laws.
- ESG: International Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, including policy development and implementation.
- Affinity with other international legal frameworks: experience with either US, UK or continental Europe legal framework will be considered a bonus.
- External counsel management: Proven experience managing external law firms.
- We expect you to be able to brief external counsel with comprehensive internal analyses, before they commence their part of the work and thoroughly vetting/challenging their final work product.
- Investigative mindset: A keen eye for granular detail and a willingness to deep-dive into complex, ambiguous legal issues.
- Pragmatic and business focus: The ability to translate the findings following the investigative mindset into pragmatic and business solutions.
- This includes the ability to effectively communicate with the Business and to translate their needs in legal solutions that work and will stand the legal test when necessary.
- Bilingual – English & French: Professional proficiency in reading and writing both languages.
- While translation tools may be used for efficiency, you must be capable of understanding, reviewing and drafting legal documents independently without relying on translation software. We have native speakers how can do the last and final check.
