We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Ambulance Driver

Location: Uwet, Akamkpa Local Government Area - Cross River 
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Purpose

  • We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Ambulance Driver to join our Medical Services team.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe transportation of patients, supporting emergency response operations, maintaining ambulance readiness, and ensuring compliance with healthcare and road safety standards.
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, First Aid and CPR certification, excellent driving skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
Emergency Response and Patient Transportation:

  • Safely operate ambulances during emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Transport patients promptly and securely between accident scenes, healthcare facilities, and other designated locations.
  • Select the safest and most efficient routes while observing road traffic regulations and emergency vehicle procedures.
  • Respond rapidly to emergency calls and maintain communication with dispatch personnel and medical teams.
  • Provide reassurance and support to patients and their families during transportation.

Patient Assistance:

  • Assist medical personnel in lifting, transferring, positioning, and securing patients on stretchers, wheelchairs, and other patient transport equipment.
  • Ensure patients are safely loaded and unloaded from the ambulance.
  • Assist healthcare professionals in handling patients with mobility challenges or medical emergencies.
  • Support emergency medical personnel during patient evacuation and transportation activities.

Basic Emergency Care Support:

  • Render basic first aid support within the limits of training and certification.
  • Assist with CPR administration and oxygen delivery when required and authorized.
  • Support medical personnel during emergency response activities.

Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance:

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the ambulance.
  • Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy, clean, and fully operational at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate fuel levels, engine fluids, tire condition, batteries, lights, and other safety equipment.
  • Report mechanical faults, accidents, damages, or maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Coordinate routine vehicle servicing and repairs as assigned.

Medical Equipment and Supplies Management:

  • Verify the availability and functionality of emergency medical equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages of medical consumables and emergency supplies.
  • Ensure all emergency equipment is securely stored and ready for immediate use.

Infection Prevention and Control:

  • Clean, sanitize, and disinfect ambulance interiors and patient transport equipment after each use.
  • Ensure proper segregation and disposal of medical waste in accordance with healthcare regulations.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols and occupational safety procedures.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, fuel usage records, and vehicle inspection reports.
  • Complete incident, accident, and emergency response reports as required.
  • Report relevant patient transportation information to healthcare providers and authorized personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and medical information.

Health, Safety, and Compliance:

  • Comply with all road traffic laws, healthcare regulations, company policies, and emergency response procedures.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and training programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Promote safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques at all times.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Emergency response time.
  • Safe transportation of patients without incidents.
  • Vehicle inspection and maintenance compliance rate.
  • Reduction in vehicle breakdowns and accidents.
  • Availability and readiness of ambulance equipment and supplies.
  • Compliance with infection control standards.
  • Accuracy and completeness of transport documentation.
  • Patient satisfaction and service quality ratings.

Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), High School Diploma, or equivalent qualification.
  • Additional healthcare or emergency response training is an added advantage.

Professional Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with authorization to operate emergency vehicles.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Defensive Driving Certification is an advantage.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is desirable but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • 2–5 years' experience as a professional driver, preferably in healthcare, emergency services, industrial operations, or related environments.
  • Proven experience operating ambulances or emergency response vehicles is preferred.

  • Knowledge of road safety regulations and emergency vehicle operations.
  • Understanding of basic first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Familiarity with ambulance equipment and patient transportation techniques.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to emergency and high-pressure situations.
  • Frequent travel within assigned operational areas.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, medical waste, and hazardous environments.
  • Requirement to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during duty.

Salary
N125,000 - N150,000 monthly.
