Job Title: Compliance Officer

Location: Agbara, Ogun
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the Agbara plantoperates in full compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory, and internal company requirements.
  • The role will support regulatory governance by ensuring timely statutory filings, maintaining compliance records, liaising with government agencies, conducting compliance monitoring, and advising management on regulatory obligations to minimize business and legal risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the organization complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and communicate their impact to relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and facilitate timely statutory filings, licence renewals, permits, and regulatory submissions.
  • Liaise with government agencies and regulatory bodies, including but not limited to:
    • NESREA
    • SON
    • NAFDAC (where applicable)
    • Fire Service and other relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date compliance register, statutory records, licences, permits, and certificates.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits across departments to identify potential compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and monitor compliance checklists to ensure adherence to statutory and internal policy requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and coordinating audit responses.
  • Prepare periodic compliance reports and present findings to management.
  • Investigate compliance issues and recommend preventive and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with HR, Finance, Operations, Legal, Procurement, HSE, and other departments to ensure regulatory compliance across business activities.
  • Coordinate compliance awareness sessions and educate employees on regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Maintain proper documentation for inspections, regulatory visits, and compliance-related correspondence.
  • Ensure prompt closure of regulatory observations, audit findings, and compliance action plans.
  • Perform any other compliance-related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Law, Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, Political Science, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification in Compliance, Risk Management, Internal Audit, Corporate Governance, or related fields will be an added advantage.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies is desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5–10years' relevant experience in Compliance, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Corporate Governance, Legal Compliance, or Regulatory Affairs.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or Chemical Industry is highly preferred.
  • Experience dealing directly with government and regulatory agencies will be an added advantage.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent understanding of corporate governance and compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of compliance monitoring and risk assessment methodologies.
