We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Truck Driver (Heavy Duty Vehicle)

Location: Mbarakom, Akamkpa Local Government Area, Cross River

Job Summary

  • Biase Plantations Limited is seeking a qualified and safety-conscious Truck Driver to support its plantation operations at Calaro Estate.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB), agricultural products, materials, equipment, and other assigned items while ensuring compliance with road safety regulations and company policies.
  • The ideal candidate must possess strong driving skills, a good understanding of vehicle maintenance, and a commitment to operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Transportation Operations:

  • Safely transport Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB), agricultural produce, supplies, equipment, and other company materials as assigned.
  • Ensure timely delivery of loads to designated locations.
  • Adhere to all road traffic laws, safety regulations, and company driving procedures.
  • Plan routes effectively to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.

Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance:

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles.
  • Check vehicle systems including brakes, tyres, lights, engine oil, coolant levels, and other critical components.
  • Report mechanical faults, defects, accidents, or breakdowns promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Ensure vehicles are kept clean and in good operating condition.

Loading and Cargo Management:

  • Assist with loading and unloading activities where required.
  • Ensure cargo is properly secured and protected from damage during transit.
  • Verify load quantities and maintain compliance with vehicle load limits.

Documentation and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle inspections.
  • Complete logbooks, trip sheets, and other transport documentation accurately and timely.
  • Report any incidents, delays, or operational challenges encountered during transportation activities.

Health, Safety and Compliance:

  • Comply with all company Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) requirements.
  • Wear prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing duties.
  • Support the company's commitment to safe driving and accident prevention.
  • Follow RSPO, environmental, and operational compliance requirements applicable to plantation operations.

Qualifications and Requirements
Education:

  • Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
  • National Certificate in Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.

Professional Requirements:

  • Valid Nigerian Driver's License with appropriate class for operating heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Good knowledge of traffic regulations and defensive driving practices.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience operating trucks or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Experience in plantation, logistics, agriculture, manufacturing, or related industries will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent vehicle handling and driving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet delivery schedules.
  • High level of responsibility, integrity, and safety awareness.
  • Ability to read routes and use navigation tools effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • Work involves operating trucks within plantation estates and on public roads.
  • May require extended working hours during peak harvesting periods to support Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) evacuation activities.
  • Exposure to varying weather and field conditions.
