Job Title: Compliance Officer

Location: Onitsha, Anambra
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports To: MD/CEO (with independent access to the Board)

Job Summary (Purpose of the Role)

  • Ensures the bank complies with all CBN, NDIC, NFIU and other regulatory requirements, with particular responsibility for the AML/CFT/CPF programme, KYC standards and regulatory relationship management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review all new accounts opened daily for complete KYC documentation before activation.
  • Screen customers against sanctions/PEP watchlists and approve or escalate exceptions.
  • Monitor transactions for suspicious activity; file STRs and CTRs with the NFIU within regulatory timelines.
  • Track the regulatory calendar and confirm every CBN/NDIC/NFIU return is rendered on time.
  • Conduct compliance spot-checks on tellers, sales officers and thrift collectors' field activities.
  • Maintain the compliance register, breach log and regulatory correspondence file.
  • Deliver periodic AML/CFT training and daily reminders to staff.
  • Supervise the Verification Officer (from December) on address/KYC verification of borrowers and new customers.
  • Serve as liaison during CBN/NDIC examinations.

Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: B.Sc / HND in Law, Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics or related field.
  • Professional Certification: Compliance Institute Nigeria (CIN) or ACAMS certification an advantage; CIBN MCP desirable. Must be registered as the bank's AML/CFT Compliance Officer with the CBN/NFIU. CILRM an advantage
  • Experience Required: 3-5 years in compliance, audit, risk or banking operations within a financial institution. Working knowledge of AML/CFT/CPF regulations, KYC and CBN Microfinance Guidelines is essential.
  • Technical / Job Skills: AML/CFT/CPF framework implementation; KYC/CDD/EDD review; rendition of NFIU reports (STRs, CTRs) via goAML; regulatory compliance monitoring; sanctions/PEP screening; policy drafting; Train staff on regulatory requirements, anti-money laundering (AML), and Know Your Customer (KYC) policies.report writing; competent use of core banking and Excel.
  • Soft Skills & Attributes: Independence and firmness; discretion; strong ethics; investigative mindset; clear written and verbal communication; ability to train staff on compliance matters. The ability to speak Igbo language is a compulsory requirement.

Salary
N350,000 - N400,000 monthly.
