Job Title: Senior Coordinator, GIS / Data Analyst

Purpose of the Position 

  • The GIS and Data Management Department at eHealth Africa plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission to improve health outcomes across Africa through geospatial intelligence and integrated data systems.
  • The team designs and deploys predictive models, interactive dashboards, and scalable data pipelines that support critical public health functions, including disease surveillance, immunization planning, emergency response, and health service delivery. By championing data standardization, fostering interoperability with key partners such as WHO NPHCDA, and NCDC, and building local technical capacity, the department ensures eHA’s interventions are evidence-based, responsive, and impactful.
  • The Senior Coordinator, GIS Services provides technical and strategic leadership for geospatial services at eHealth Africa.
  • This role provides support in the design and implementation of spatial strategies, geospatial data governance, and ensures that GIS capabilities are integrated into core planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes.
  • Under the supervision of the manager, S/he manages GIS teams and workflows while engaging across departments to apply advanced spatial thinking to solve complex programmatic and operational challenges.

What You’ll Do
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Support the development of organizational spatial strategies, data standards, and geospatial system architecture to guide scalable and sustainable GIS integration.
  • Manage GIS service delivery across programs and initiatives, ensuring quality, consistency, and the generation of meaningful geospatial insights.
  • Translate complex spatial data into actionable insights, providing geographic intelligence for stakeholders, donors, and decision-makers.
  • Engage with senior leadership, technical advisors, and field teams to define evolving spatial data needs and ensure fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT, M&E, and research teams to align GIS with analytics platforms, data pipelines, and reporting ecosystems.
  • Implement and manage GIS dashboards, mobile tools, and digital platforms to optimize data visualization and decision-making workflows.
  • Ensure adherence to geospatial metadata standards, version control, data governance, and ethical data-sharing practices.
  • Monitor the impact of GIS tools and processes, refining methodologies based on performance metrics, feedback, and evolving technology.
  • Design and provide support in overseeing advanced geospatial analyses, including service coverage assessments, catchment modeling, and predictive mapping.
  • Advise program teams and proposal developers on the integration of geospatial tools, donor compliance, and innovative spatial approaches.

  • Supportive Contributor – Comfortable working across diverse teams and stakeholder groups, ensuring spatial insights align with operational needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Data Science, Public Health, or related field. Master’s preferred. 
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience applying GIS to real-world programmatic or tools in a data-driven environment, preferably within the NGO or development sector.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online, Power BI, GPS data collection tools (e.g., ODK, Kobo), and spatial databases.
  • Demonstrates a strong analytical mindset and a natural curiosity for uncovering patterns, trends, and actionable insights.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in the operation of GIS surveying and related equipment, including computer hardware, plotter/printer setup, GPS. 

Certifications and Licenses:

  • ACAP, GISP Certification or its equivalent.
