Job Title: Home Economics Teacher (Female)

Job Purpose

  • The Home Economics Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, practical, and high-quality lessons in Home Economics while equipping students with essential life skills.
  • The ideal candidate must be highly skilled in sewing and garment construction, enabling students to develop practical tailoring, fashion design, textile, and entrepreneurial skills alongside cooking, nutrition, and home management.
  • She will foster creativity, discipline, leadership, and independent thinking in line with the values of Noble Hall Leadership Academy for Girls.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Home Economics lessons in accordance with the school's curriculum.
  • Teach practical and theoretical aspects of:
    • Garment construction and sewing techniques
    • Pattern drafting and alteration
    • Fashion design fundamentals
    • Clothing and textile studies
    • Food and Nutrition
    • Meal planning and preparation
    • Family living and resource management
    • Interior decoration and home management
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Assess students regularly through practical projects, assignments, and examinations.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and submit reports promptly.

Sewing and Fashion Skills:

  • Demonstrate advanced sewing techniques using both manual and industrial sewing machines.
  • Teach students:
    • Taking body measurements
    • Pattern drafting
    • Fabric identification and selection
    • Cutting techniques
    • Garment finishing
    • Embroidery and decorative stitches
    • Basic fashion illustration
    • Clothing alterations and repairs
  • Guide students in producing quality garments and fashion projects.
  • Organize fashion exhibitions and student showcases.

Practical Laboratory Management:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized Home Economics laboratory.
  • Ensure proper handling and maintenance of sewing machines and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory of fabrics, tools, and consumable materials.
  • Report equipment faults promptly.

Student Development:

  • Inspire creativity, confidence, and entrepreneurship.
  • Mentor students interested in fashion and textile careers.
  • Encourage participation in competitions, exhibitions, and community projects.
  • Promote excellent grooming, hygiene, and professionalism.

School Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in assemblies, school events, exhibitions, and extracurricular activities.
  • Attend departmental meetings, staff meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress.
  • Support the school's pastoral care and safeguarding policies.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Achieve at least 90% curriculum coverage each term.
  • Ensure 80% or more of students attain proficiency in sewing and garment construction practical assessments.
  • Complete a minimum of two major practical projects per student each term.
  • Organize at least one fashion exhibition, skills showcase, or entrepreneurship event annually.
  • Maintain 100% functionality and proper care of sewing equipment and laboratory resources.
  • Submit lesson plans, schemes of work, assessments, and reports on schedule with 100% compliance.
  • Achieve at least 85% student satisfaction based on lesson observations and feedback.
  • Integrate entrepreneurship and life skills into lessons throughout the academic year.
  • Participate fully in school activities, meetings, and professional development programmes.
  • Maintain excellent classroom discipline and comply fully with safeguarding and health and safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or NCE in Home Economics, Home Management, Clothing and Textiles, Fashion Design, or a related discipline.
  • Teaching qualification (PGDE or TRCN registration is an added advantage).
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a reputable secondary school.
  • Professional tailoring or fashion design certification is an added advantage.
